The FBI conducted early morning raids on Wednesday at the homes of two top aides to New York City Mayor Eric Adams as part of an ongoing federal investigation into the mayor’s 2021 campaign.

The homes of Phil Banks, Deputy Mayor for Public Safety, and Sheena Wright, First Deputy Mayor, were searched by federal agents around 5 a.m., according to law enforcement sources.

The simultaneous raids took place at Wright’s residence in Harlem and Banks’ home in Queens.

Though the FBI has not commented directly on the searches, the actions are believed to be part of a larger federal probe into Adams’ campaign fundraising activities and possible connections to a kickback scheme involving City Hall and the Turkish government.

Wright is one of the highest-ranking officials in the mayor’s office to have been targeted by the investigation so far.

Banks, a long-time ally of Adams and brother of Schools Chancellor David Banks, also had his home searched. Both Wright and Banks serve in key roles within the Adams administration, with Wright being the city’s First Deputy Mayor and Banks overseeing public safety.

In July, federal prosecutors issued grand jury subpoenas to Mayor Adams, City Hall, and his campaign team as part of the probe into his 2021 campaign fundraising. Adams’ electronic devices were seized at the time, though he has consistently denied any involvement in wrongdoing.

The FBI is reportedly attempting to get someone close to the mayor to cooperate with investigators.

While neither Wright nor Banks has been charged with any crimes, the raids represent a significant development in the case.

The investigation has already touched several other individuals linked to Adams, including Brianna Suggs, the mayor’s top campaign fundraiser, whose home was previously searched by federal agents.

David Banks, who is engaged to Sheena Wright, declined to comment when spotted leaving the Harlem home he shares with her on Thursday. He is the brother of Phil Banks, who was named an unindicted co-conspirator in a major federal police corruption case several years ago.

As the investigation continues, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York and the FBI have remained tight-lipped about the precise nature of the allegations.

However, sources familiar with the case have said that electronic devices were among the evidence seized in Wednesday’s raids.

This is the latest development in the widening probe surrounding Mayor Adams’ 2021 campaign.

Federal agents have already raided the properties of several of Adams’ allies, and with the FBI targeting two of his closest aides, the investigation appears to be intensifying.

Despite the ongoing scrutiny, Mayor Adams continues to assert his innocence in connection with the campaign finance allegations.
