Senator John Fetterman (D-Pa.) captured national attention on Tuesday by becoming the first Democratic U.S. senator to post on Truth Social, President-elect Donald Trump’s social media platform.

BREAKING REPORT: Senator John Fetterman makes his first post to Truth Social, SLAMS the weaponization if the justice system against Trump.

WILL FETTERMAN BE THE NEXT SENATOR TO SWITCH PARTIES?

Fetterman’s debut on the platform included a controversial statement addressing the legal cases involving Trump and Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden.

In his post, Fetterman condemned both cases, stating, “My first truth. The Trump hush money and Hunter Biden cases were both bulls—, and pardons are appropriate. Weaponizing the judiciary for blatant, partisan gain diminishes the collective faith in our institutions and sows further division.”

Along with his statement, Fetterman shared a screenshot of an MSNBC.com headline that read, “Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg responds to Trump’s motion to dismiss hush money case.” The article detailed Bragg’s response to Trump’s motion to dismiss the case in which Trump was convicted on 34 felony counts earlier this year. Judge Juan Merchan, who presided over the case, had indefinitely postponed Trump’s sentencing following his victory in the November presidential election.

In his response to the motion, Bragg wrote to Judge Merchan, arguing that Trump’s request “goes well beyond what is necessary to protect the presidency and would subvert the compelling public interest in preserving the jury’s unanimous verdict and upholding the rule of law.”

Fetterman’s post also came shortly after President Biden issued a controversial pardon for Hunter Biden.

The pardon covered offenses against the United States that Hunter Biden “has committed or may have committed” between January 1, 2014, and December 1, 2024.

It included charges related to illegal firearm possession and tax-related felonies, for which Hunter Biden was convicted following a Department of Justice investigation.

The pardon drew widespread criticism, even from within the Democratic Party.

Media outlets such as The Washington Post and The New York Times published editorials opposing the decision.

Despite the backlash, Joe Biden defended the pardon, claiming his son was “unfairly” targeted by the DOJ. Fetterman echoed this sentiment in his Truth Social post, aligning himself with the president’s stance.

Fetterman had previously expressed similar views during an appearance on The View.

Speaking to the hosts, he stated, “I think it’s undeniable that the case against Hunter Biden was really politically motivated. But I also think it’s true that the trial in New York for Trump, that was political as well, too. Now, in both cases, I think a pardon is appropriate.”

The senator further emphasized the damage these cases have caused to public trust in American institutions. “And I really think collectively, you know, America’s confidence in these kinds of institutions has been damaged by these kinds of cases, and we cannot allow these kinds of institutions to be weaponized against our political opponents, and it’s very clear both trials were politically motivated and weaponized on the other side,” Fetterman said.

Fetterman’s comments highlight the growing debate over the perceived politicization of the judiciary and its impact on public trust.

His call for bipartisan pardons marks a significant stance within his party, particularly given the divisive nature of these high-profile legal cases.

As discussions around judicial integrity and political weaponization continue, Fetterman’s remarks are likely to fuel further debate on how these issues are addressed moving forward.
