Now, given…I may be paraphrasing just a tad what the little nipper actually said.

But, for the prime minister of a country wallowing in its own economic problems now finding itself in the crosshairs of the incoming 47th president of the United States, Justin Trudeau sure talks a lot of smack when he’s safe at home.

It wasn’t two weeks after the election that Donald Trump announced that besides world peace, he was seriously considering slapping a 25% tariff on our southern and northern border neighbors, plus the Chinese, if they didn’t get their acts together over border security, first and foremost.

President-elect Donald Trump on Monday pledged big tariffs on the United States’ three largest trading partners – Canada, Mexico and China – detailing how he will implement campaign promises that could trigger trade wars.
Trump, who takes office on Jan. 20, said he would impose a 25% tariff on imports from Canada and Mexico until they clamped down on drugs, particularly fentanyl, and migrants crossing the border, in a move that would appear to violate a free-trade deal.

Trump separately outlined “an additional 10% tariff, above any additional tariffs” on imports from China. It was not entirely clear what this would mean for China as he has previously pledged to end China’s most-favored-nation trading status and slap tariffs on Chinese imports in excess of 60% – much higher than those imposed during his first term.

The two posts on Truth Social represent some of Trump’s most specific comments on how he will implement his economic agenda since winning the Nov. 5 election on promises to “put America first”.

“On January 20th, as one of my many first Executive Orders, I will sign all necessary documents to charge Mexico and Canada a 25% Tariff on ALL products coming into the United States, and its ridiculous Open Borders,” Trump said.

It was the collective gulp heard ’round the hemisphere.

The socialist Mexican president, for all her bluster, was on the phone in a trice pledging all sorts of mutual cooperation until, within days, she had to walk a bunch back in order to stay alive.

Being owned by the cartels is like that if they take offense to what you say in public.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has sought to clarify details of a conversation she had with US President-elect Donald Trump, after the two leaders offered differing accounts of the call.

Following Wednesday’s call, Trump said Sheinbaum had “agreed to stop Migration through Mexico, and into the United States, effectively closing our Southern Border”.

This prompted Sheinbaum to say she had merely reiterated Mexico’s position, which she said was “not to close borders but to build bridges between governments and people”.

On the northern border, Fidelito did things one better. After his initial attempt to reach out to the president-elect didn’t go exactly as Trudeau planned – his boyish charm must be wearing off…

Trudeau appears shaken and admits having called Trump last night to try to mend relations after Trump threatened a 25% tariff on Canada until they address illegals from there invading the US.

…he hopped on a plane three days later, scooting his butt down to sunny Florida to kiss the ring.

Trudeau is there to bend the knee.

All in an effort to make a nice talk to the Godfather…Don Trumpeto.

It didn’t help that he arrived like a glitzy Fredo and came in with all the wrong excuses ready. Trump flayed him alive. Word of the conversation got out, to parties in both countries’ immense amusement and probably to Trudeau’s humiliation, after being told if he couldn’t get his house in order, maybe he needed to find a new one.

To be honest, we cannot vouch for Trudeau being able to feel any humiliation. There’s been no sign of it yet.

Justin Trudeau: “New tariffs will kill the Canadian economy.”

Donald Trump: “Well, maybe Canada should become the 51st state, and you can be its governor!”

Trump again piled onto the feckless, spineless Trudeau about the tariffs in a Kristen Welker interview during his visit to Paris.

TRUMP: I spoke with Justin Trudeau. In fact, he flew in to Mar a Lago within about 15 seconds after the call.

The Canadian press is spazzing, not quite as badly as Morning Joe believers after the Mar a Lago trip…but close. They are begging Trudeau not to let Trump push him around.

…There was no joint statement or announcement of an agreement. There were promises to continue discussions, which does not constitute a victory. All Trudeau can claim is a public relations victory like the one Trump touted after his return from North Korea, and that is not insignificant. But showing that Trump was not mean to him is hardly a diplomatic victory.

Trump provided Trudeau with opportunities for photo sessions without conceding anything or making any promises. He maintained his firm demand that Canada strengthen its border security to prevent drugs and potential terrorists from crossing freely. Trump takes satisfaction in the fact that a man he despises travelled to plead with him for leniency regarding his tariff threats. He is fully aware of this dynamic.

Prime Minister Trudeau may portray himself as someone who understands Trump well, but Trump holds the upper hand. He knows Trudeau is “weak” and desperately desires to maintain himself in power, despite his low popularity. Furthermore, Trump understands that Trudeau is willing to make significant political sacrifices to achieve a seemingly favourable resolution to the border issues. Trudeau badly needs a win, and Trump knows that Trudeau is willing to jeopardize his country’s economy to win. Consequently, Trump will likely capitalize on Trudeau’s vulnerabilities for all they are worth.

Trump understands that Trudeau is the ideal Canadian leader to engage with him, which should make Trudeau the least suitable person to negotiate with Trump if Canada’s interests are to be protected.

…Prime Minister Trudeau believes he is the only one who can deal with Trump from a position of strength, which is incorrect. His government has gimmicks but no strength left. That is why the prime minister pleads for a Team Canada approach to Trump and quickly condemns skepticism of his abilities as a national betrayal.

Trump will take advantage of that weakness — and if he can nail a man he despises as weak and woke, he will enjoy it the more.  Out-Trumping Trump for domestic advantage was a fool’s errand.

I can only assume Fidelito had heard enough and decided it was time to put on his war face. It didn’t hurt that he was safe at home in Ottowa.

The tough guy issued a response statement today about Trump’s looming tariff threat.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Canada “will respond” if US President-elect Donald Trump imposes new tariffs on Canadian imports https://t.co/lJe2c9XB0f

— Bloomberg (@business) December 9, 2024

Yup.

That was it.

The whole thing.

…Canada will “respond to unfair tariffs in a number of ways, and we’re still looking at the right ways to respond, but our responses to the unfair steel and aluminum tariffs were what ended up lifting those tariffs last time,” he said.

WE ARE GOING TO RESPOND WITH RESPONSES, BUT RESPONDING TAKES TIME, AND OUR LAST RESPONSES WERE IRRESPONSIBLE

Says the head of the Canadian government.

Now, go away before I taunt you a second time.

What was that quote from above about Trump?

“…and if he can nail a man he despises as weak and woke, he will enjoy it the more…”

OMG. He is gonna eat this guy alive.
