Authorities in Secaucus, New Jersey, are investigating a Labor Day weekend street takeover that turned violent when individuals launched fireworks at police vehicles during an overnight incident, as reported by Fox News.
According to the Secaucus Police Department, the disturbance began around 2 a.m. Sunday, when officers responded to reports of more than 100 people engaging in reckless driving, including spinning cars in circles, at a local intersection.

When police arrived, they were met by a crowd of more than 50 individuals who surrounded patrol vehicles. Some people reportedly climbed onto the cruisers, causing damage.
The situation escalated when several individuals directed fireworks at and underneath police vehicles, using them as what authorities described as “incendiary devices.”

Due to the scale of the incident, Secaucus police requested backup from surrounding agencies. Officers from nearby towns assisted in dispersing the crowd.

No injuries were reported among law enforcement personnel during the confrontation.

Police Chief Dennis Miller issued a statement commending officers for maintaining control despite being attacked.
“Our officers came under attack last night, and I will not tolerate this unrest. I will be dedicating resources from our Traffic Bureau, Detective Division, Patrol Division and Intelligence Section to assemble a Task Force to identify the individuals responsible for this riotous behavior and bring them to justice. Secaucus is not going to be the place where these criminals operate with impunity!”
Authorities are reviewing video footage of the incident and are asking for public assistance in identifying participants involved in the street takeover and attacks on police vehicles. The department has encouraged anyone with information to contact investigators directly.
