Five Senate Democrats are visiting Guantanamo Bay this week, not to address justice for Americans impacted by violent foreign gangs but to protest the detention of members from the Tren de Aragua cartel, a notorious Venezuelan criminal organization.

The delegation includes Senators Jack Reed (D-RI), Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Gary Peters (D-MI), Alex Padilla (D-CA), and self-identified Independent Senator Angus King of Maine, who caucuses with the Democrats. The visit is being conducted under the premise of “congressional oversight.”

The visit was first reported by Semafor, with congressional bureau chief Burgess Everett sharing that the senators were heading to Guantanamo Bay on Friday for the oversight trip.

This visit comes amidst growing Democratic concerns about the detention of foreign nationals, specifically those with suspected ties to international criminal organizations, such as Tren de Aragua.

Tren de Aragua, a violent cartel from Venezuela, is involved in a wide range of criminal activities, including human trafficking, extortion, and murder.

Their presence in the U.S. has led to a series of violent crimes, with members of the group accused of assaulting, robbing, and even killing American citizens.

Despite the severity of these crimes, Senate Democrats have focused their efforts on protesting the detention of cartel members at Guantanamo Bay, rather than addressing the safety of American citizens or the threat posed by these international criminal organizations.

Progressive lawmakers have been vocal in their opposition to the use of Guantanamo Bay as a detention facility for foreign nationals with alleged connections to groups like Tren de Aragua.

Their rhetoric has echoed the broader left-wing narrative, which emphasizes the rights of foreign criminals over the safety and security of American citizens.

Rep. Maxine Dexter (D-OR) has been one of the most outspoken critics of Guantanamo Bay’s use for detainees, stating, “Guantanamo Bay has no place in our immigration system. This facility is known for its unrelenting human rights abuses, and its use to house immigrants is fundamentally wrong.”

Dexter further pledged to continue leading Democrats in demanding “not just transparency—but real action” regarding the detention program.

The demands from the left are focused primarily on the treatment of detainees and the conditions at Guantanamo Bay.

These include calls for an immediate halt to the transfer of immigrants to the facility, a detailed report on any past or future transfers, access to counsel for current or prospective detainees, and a full accounting of government expenditures related to the detention program.

However, these demands have notably excluded any mention of the victims—Americans whose lives have been affected by the crimes of the Tren de Aragua cartel.

There has been no call for justice for the victims assaulted, robbed, or killed by cartel members, who many argue should never have been allowed into the U.S. in the first place.

In contrast, Republicans have been advocating for stronger immigration enforcement and border security, with a particular emphasis on cracking down on violent foreign gangs like Tren de Aragua.

While some Republicans have called for more stringent measures to address cartel activity, Senate Democrats appear to be prioritizing virtue-signaling and appeasing the open-borders lobby, rather than focusing on the real threats posed to American citizens.

Karoline’s like yeah, they broke into this country and committed heinous crimes like rape

This is why 70%+ support Trump’s mass deportations

As the debate over immigration and border security continues, the contrast between the two parties’ approaches remains stark.

While Republicans push for tougher measures to protect American communities from foreign criminal organizations, Senate Democrats are directing their attention to the conditions at Guantanamo Bay, demanding reforms and transparency for individuals linked to criminal enterprises.

In doing so, they seem to be overlooking the ongoing harm caused by these foreign gangs and the need for action to protect Americans from further violence.
