A Florida high school assistant football coach has been arrested and charged after allegedly brawling with multiple students during practice, weeks after a separate violent incident at another school, as reported by The New York Post.

According to a Broward County Sheriff’s Office report obtained by Local 10, Jamir Clarke, 29, an assistant coach at Blanche Ely High School in Pompano Beach, was taken into custody Monday following a fight with three players during a team practice.

The report states that Clarke confronted one of his players about a negative social media post aimed at someone he knew. After the student admitted to making the post, Clarke allegedly called the student a “bitch” and struck him. The student ran to safety, but other players then confronted Clarke.

“He just got surrounded by everybody, and he just started throwing punches at everybody,” one student who witnessed the incident told Local 10. Another player who attempted to break up the fight was also struck.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to the school, where they found the weightlifting room locked. Once inside, they located Clarke sitting on the floor with the lights off.

A mirror in the room had been cracked during the altercation. Clarke was arrested and booked into Broward County Main Jail on four counts of child abuse without great bodily harm. His bond was set at $30,000, and he was later released under house arrest with a GPS monitor.

Broward County Public Schools notified parents that Clarke had been removed from his coaching position, stating that “the safety and well-being of our students is our number one priority.” The district confirmed that coaching was Clarke’s only role on campus.

During a court appearance on Wednesday, prosecutor Eric Linder argued that Clarke’s size — listed at 6-foot-7 and 400 pounds — and his failure to de-escalate the situation made him a “risk” to students. Clarke claimed he was acting in self-defense.

Prosecutors also revealed that earlier this month, Clarke was accused of attacking a student at Monarch High School in Coconut Creek, where he worked as a campus monitor. A disturbing video obtained by Local 10 appears to show Clarke swinging and punching a student inside a bathroom.

Broward County Public Schools said they had not been aware of the Monarch High incident until Clarke’s arrest. The district announced that Clarke, who has been employed with BCPS since December 2024, is being reassigned while officials review the case for possible termination.

The incidents have drawn sharp criticism from parents and students. “The video I saw is him being the aggressor and it was terrible,” parent Shaka Williams told Local 10.

Williams added that adults should show more patience with students, saying, “I think putting your hands on a kid is never OK.”

Student Isaiah Robinson told the outlet he was not surprised by the allegations, claiming Clarke has “a history of it.”

If convicted, Clarke faces up to five years in prison for each of the four counts of child abuse.
