A Florida man described by witnesses as acting “erratic” was arrested in Miami this week after allegedly opening fire during a confrontation over a single dollar, according to police, as reported by the New York Post.
The incident occurred Wednesday afternoon in Miami’s Little River neighborhood. According to a report from WPLG, Fernando de Carvalho, 28, approached three men who were sitting on a street corner and asked one of them for $1.
Police said the man told de Carvalho that he did not have any money and began to walk away. Moments later, the man “suddenly heard a gunshot,” according to officers investigating the incident.

Witnesses told police that de Carvalho began acting “erratic” during the encounter. According to those accounts, de Carvalho pointed a gun at the man and threatened him, saying, “I will shoot you.”
No injuries were reported in the incident.

Police responded to the scene shortly after the reported gunfire and located de Carvalho nearby. Officers also recovered a shell casing at the scene, which they believe was connected to the shooting.
De Carvalho was taken into custody and charged with aggravated assault with a firearm and unlawful discharge of a firearm.
Authorities said the charges stem from both the alleged threat made during the confrontation and the discharge of the weapon in a public area.
According to WPLG, de Carvalho has numerous tattoos across his body, including on his face. One of the facial tattoos reads “fast money,” a detail that was noted by police and included in the arrest report.
Following his arrest, de Carvalho was transported to Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where he remains in custody. Jail records show that he is being held on a $5,500 bond.
Police have not released information indicating whether de Carvalho knew any of the men involved prior to the encounter.
Investigators also have not disclosed a motive beyond the reported request for money that preceded the confrontation.
The case remains under review by local authorities. Prosecutors will determine whether additional charges are warranted as the investigation continues.
The incident adds to ongoing concerns about violent confrontations in public spaces and the role of firearms in disputes that escalate rapidly.
Police have urged anyone with additional information about the shooting to contact investigators.
No further details were immediately available regarding court dates or whether de Carvalho has retained legal representation.
