A Florida high school teacher was arrested last week on charges of engaging in a sexual relationship with a student that investigators say lasted for eight months and included multiple encounters on school property.
Brooke Anderson, 27, a science teacher at Riverview High School in Hillsborough County, is facing three counts of unlawful sexual activity with a minor, according to a press release issued by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities allege the most recent incident took place inside Anderson’s classroom shortly before she was taken into custody on May 16.

The investigation revealed that the relationship began in September 2023 with explicit messages between Anderson and the student.
According to the sheriff’s office, those messages escalated to physical encounters over the following months.
On the morning of May 16, the student reported that Anderson engaged in sexual activity with him before classes began, inside her classroom.
That same day, Anderson was arrested and later booked into jail.
A judge set her bail at $45,000 — $15,000 for each count. She was released on May 17, according to court records cited by People.com.
“This teacher betrayed the trust of a student, a school, and an entire community,” Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a statement.
“What should have been a safe, supportive environment for learning was exploited for abuse. Her actions are criminal, calculated, and deeply disturbing.”
Unlawful sexual activity with a minor is classified as a second-degree felony in Florida. If convicted, Anderson faces up to 15 years in prison for each count.
Anderson has not yet entered a plea in the case.
It remains unclear whether she has retained legal counsel.
The Hillsborough County School District confirmed that Anderson had been employed with the district since November 2021 and was teaching biology at the time of her arrest.
A spokesperson stated that she had passed all required background checks before being hired.
“Ms. Anderson had been with the district since November 2021 and taught Biology,” the district said in a statement to the New York Post.
“She has been suspended pending termination. She passed all required screenings and background checks prior to being hired.”
Riverview High School is located southeast of Tampa and serves over 2,400 students.
The district has not released additional details about how it is handling the matter or what support has been offered to students and staff in the aftermath of the arrest.
The Hillsborough County School District did not respond immediately to further requests for comment.
The case remains under investigation.
