A 33-year-old woman in Florida is facing multiple charges after allegedly assaulting a 72-year-old man who was wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat at a local park earlier this week, as reported by The New York Post.
Laura Garrett was arrested Tuesday by the Largo Police Department in connection with the incident, which took place at Northeast Park and Paw Place.
According to records from the Pinellas County Jail, Garrett is charged with battery on a person over the age of 65, battery on a law enforcement officer, and resisting an officer without violence.

An arrest affidavit obtained by FOX 13 Tampa Bay indicates that Garrett approached the elderly man to question him about his support for President Donald Trump. During the exchange, a verbal argument ensued, which allegedly escalated into a physical confrontation.

According to the arrest report, Garrett poured the contents of a can on the man’s head before striking him on the back of the head and shoulder with it. Garrett reportedly denied hitting the man with the can but admitted to approaching him about Trump.
Police said Garrett fled the scene by jumping a fence and walking away after the incident. She was later located and confronted by officers, during which she allegedly resisted arrest.

The report details that Garrett intentionally dropped to the ground when officers attempted to handcuff her. As they tried to escort her from the park, she allegedly wrapped her legs around one of the officers, causing him to fall and injure his knee.

The officer’s injury resulted in an additional battery charge.

Garrett reportedly continued to resist arrest by kicking and pulling away from officers. She was booked into the Pinellas County Jail on Tuesday evening and released the following night, according to jail records.
The identity of the 72-year-old man has not been released. Authorities have not indicated whether any additional charges are being considered in relation to the incident.
