Less than 100 days into President Donald Trump’s second term, and under the leadership of Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a shift in vaccine oversight is already receiving scrutiny amid new research suggesting negative effectiveness from seasonal flu shots.
A recent study from the Cleveland Clinic has raised concerns over the current flu vaccine’s performance.
Conducted over a 25-week period and involving approximately 53,000 employees, the study found that vaccinated individuals were more likely to become infected with the flu than their unvaccinated peers.

Roughly 44,000 of those tracked had received the flu vaccine under the Clinic’s mandatory policy, with medical and religious exemptions permitted.
The research team, led by infectious disease physician Dr. Nabin Shrestha, reported that the rate of flu infections among vaccinated employees increased as the season progressed, eventually reaching what they described as a “negative effectiveness” rate of 27%.
Did you get the flu vaccine this year? If so, you have a 27% HIGHER chance of contracting influenza. LOL.
The flu vaccine doesn’t prevent you from getting the flu. It makes you MORE LIKELY to get the flu.

The study, which has not yet been peer-reviewed, focused on a relatively young and healthy population, with a mean age of 42 years and 75% female participation.
Though limitations include the inability to track home-tested cases or assess hospitalization and mortality rates, the findings are contributing to a broader debate about vaccine policy and oversight, particularly under the new HHS administration.

Shrestha’s previous work also attracted attention.
In 2022, his team reported that the newly introduced bivalent COVID-19 vaccines were only 30% effective against dominant virus strains.
Follow-up research, rejected by peer-reviewed journals, indicated that increased vaccination doses correlated with a higher risk of infection in working-age adults.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) published similar findings.
A 2022 study showed sub-50% effectiveness from bivalent COVID shots across all age groups, with the worst performance in those aged 65 and older.
A separate CDC-backed study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association reported negative effectiveness for unboosted adults compared to unvaccinated individuals.
Critics, including Dr. Peter McCullough, cardiologist and chief scientific officer of the Wellness Company, argue that public trust in vaccination has eroded significantly.
Speaking to Just the News No Noise, McCullough said the Cleveland Clinic’s flu vaccine findings align with a 2012 Hong Kong study that found increased risk of non-flu infection after flu vaccination in children.
He now supports narrowing flu vaccine use to high-risk populations.
Meanwhile, scrutiny continues surrounding HHS appointments and vaccine oversight. Citeline—formerly Pharma Intelligence—published an article questioning FDA adviser Dr. Tracy Beth Hoeg, who was appointed by FDA Commissioner Marty Makary.
Critics accused her of “spreading misinformation” about COVID vaccines.
An unnamed source claimed Hoeg was involved in reviewing the Novavax COVID vaccine application, though the FDA has not confirmed this.
Separately, Secretary Kennedy appeared on CBS this week, where he reiterated his support for the MMR vaccine.
However, CBS omitted his challenge to a claim made by its medical correspondent Jon LaPook that an 8-year-old unvaccinated girl in Texas died from measles.
Kennedy stated that the child, Daisy Hildebrand, had multiple prior hospitalizations, mononucleosis, and recovered from measles before succumbing to what he said was bacterial infection, citing hospital records obtained by the family.

Those records, shared with Children’s Health Defense (CHD) and pulmonary disease specialist Dr. Pierre Kory, indicated acute respiratory distress syndrome from hospital-acquired pneumonia, not direct measles complications.
CHD’s chief scientific officer, Dr. Brian Hooker, and mRNA pioneer Dr. Robert Malone supported the claim and criticized the hospital’s treatment protocol.
Malone cited a Texas physician involved in the case who alleged that the child was treated as if she had COVID-19 and was administered steroids that suppressed her immune system.
That physician also stated that the girl had previously been infected with measles in a hospital setting.
Neither University Medical Center nor Covenant Children’s Hospital responded to media inquiries regarding the allegations of medical error.
As vaccine policy continues to face intense debate and scrutiny, both in Washington and in the medical community, the Cleveland Clinic study and ongoing controversies highlight the challenges facing the current administration as it navigates oversight, transparency, and public confidence.
