Vice President Vance raised the prospect of securing peace between Russia and Ukraine through diplomatic efforts led by the United States. Zelensky responded by questioning Russia’s actions since 2014 and the diplomatic efforts that had taken place.
As the conversation continued, Zelensky suggested that war affects all nations and warned that the United States would feel the impact of the conflict in the future.
Trump countered, saying Zelensky could not “know” that would happen. The discussion escalated from there.
At one point, Trump told Zelensky he was “gambling with the lives of millions of people.”
“You’re gambling with World War III,” Trump said. “You’re gambling with World War III, and what you’re doing is very disrespectful to the country—this country—that’s backed you far more than a lot of people said they should have.”
Following the meeting, Zelensky appeared on Fox News Channel’s Special Report and reflected on the confrontation.
“I’m not sure that we did something bad,” Zelensky said. “I think it was bad for both sides.”
Holtz was not the only sports figure to weigh in on the matter. NFL
legend Brett Favre also reacted to the exchange, expressing his concerns over the way the discussion unfolded.
“This was a bit unreal to watch. A foreign leader speaking to a sitting U.S. President like this,” Favre wrote in response to a clip of the argument.
“Glad Donald Trump and JD Vance are standing up for America.”
