A former Army employee who was previously profiled by Politico has been indicted on federal charges for allegedly sharing classified national defense information with a journalist over a period of several years, as reported by The New York Post.
Courtney Williams, 40, was indicted Wednesday in connection with allegations that she disclosed sensitive material while communicating with journalist and author Seth Harp.
According to the indictment, Williams held a top secret security clearance during her time working for a “special military unit” based out of Fort Bragg, North Carolina, between 2010 and 2016.

Federal authorities allege that between 2022 and 2025, Williams engaged in repeated phone calls and text message exchanges with Harp, during which she provided statements containing “classified national defense information.”

Prosecutors say that information later appeared in a book and a magazine article published by Politico.
Harp directly attributed statements to Williams in an August 2025 exposé focusing on alleged sexual misconduct and drug trafficking within the Army’s elite Delta Force.
The indictment states that the material at issue relates to sensitive “Tactics, Techniques and Procedures (TTPs)” used by the specialized military unit. It remains unclear which specific portions of the published material have been classified.
Court documents also include text messages Williams allegedly sent after reviewing Harp’s published work.

In one message to the journalist, she wrote, “I wish you had sent me a copy of what was to be published prior to publishing … I would definitely have been concerned with the amount of classified information being disclosed.”
She added, “I thought things I was telling you so you could have a better general understanding of how the [unit] was set up or operated would not be published, and it feels like an entire TTP was sent out in my name, giving them a chance to legally persecute me.”
Williams also expressed concern about the potential consequences of the disclosures in messages to her mother. According to the indictment, she wrote, “I’m taking deep breaths, but have a feeling this is going to be more of a nightmare for my children than not.”

In another message cited in the charging documents, Williams told her mother, “I might actually get arrested, and I don’t even get a free copy of the book.”
When asked why she might face arrest, she allegedly responded, “For disclosing classified information.”
In addition to the communications with Harp, prosecutors allege that Williams made “unauthorized disclosures of national defense information” on social media platforms.
Harp did not respond to a request for comment from The Post. However, in a statement posted on social media, he described Williams as a “courageous whistleblower” and called her arrest “an outrage.”
Federal officials emphasized the seriousness of the charges. FBI Director Kash Patel addressed the case in a statement on X, writing that Williams’ arrest should “serve as a message to any would-be leakers: we’re working these cases, and we’re making arrests.”
“This FBI will not tolerate those who seek to betray our country and put Americans in harm’s way,” Patel wrote.
