Daniel Cameron, the former Attorney General of Kentucky and current U.S. Senate candidate, emphasized his support for President Donald Trump’s “America First” platform during an appearance Wednesday on Newsmax’s Wake Up America.

As Newsmax reported, Cameron is seeking the Republican nomination to replace outgoing Sen. Mitch McConnell, who announced he will not seek re-election when his term ends in January 2027.

Minority Leader of the U.S. Senate Mitch McConnell speaks during the 60th annual Kentucky State Fair Ham Auction Thursday morning, August 22, 2024.

Cameron told Newsmax that Kentucky will continue to stand firmly with President Trump if he is elected to the Senate.

“I’m the best candidate because I’m the candidate that will go to Washington to advance President Trump’s ‘America First’ agenda,” Cameron said. “I’ve got a track record of standing with and supporting him.”

Cameron noted that he endorsed President Trump in 2023, while others in the state did not.

“I’ve been with him through thick and thin and will continue to be his biggest advocate in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. You need a senator that’s going to stand up for the constitutional rights and values of the men, women, and children of our 120 counties and I will do that as the next senator from Kentucky.”

Cameron said he is encouraged by current polling, which places his campaign at 44% support. He confirmed he is “glad to be in this race.”

Sen. McConnell, who has occasionally voted against President Trump’s agenda—including opposing several Cabinet nominations—announced earlier this year that he would step down at the end of his term.

Cameron made clear that if elected, his priority in the Senate would be to support Trump’s vision.

“Let’s look at the first 100 days. I mean, here is a president that has brought $5 trillion in investment to this country. That means thousands of jobs to good, hardworking Americans. This is a president that has deported illegal immigrants, over 139,000 of them. He’s making our streets safer, and he’s reestablishing the rule of law.”

Cameron highlighted the importance of domestic energy production, particularly in his home state.

“This is a president that is unleashing our coal and natural gas,” he said.

“We don’t want to see what happened in Europe happen here in the United States with the blackouts. Again, this is a president that understands the working men and women of this country. He understands the working men and women of the commonwealth, and he needs a senator that supports his agenda.”

Addressing differences from his unsuccessful 2023 gubernatorial campaign, Cameron said his strategy will rely heavily on grassroots outreach.

“I plan to be everywhere in the Commonwealth, talking to as many people as I can, getting on every venue and forum that I can be in to share the message,” he said. “This is a race about our future.”

He also criticized left-wing policies, especially the use of diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. “My wife, Makenze, and I have two boys,” he said.

“We believe wholeheartedly in a country that is based on merit, excellence, intelligence and integrity—not DEI, which has been weaponized by the left to divide this country.”

The Kentucky Senate race is expected to be a critical battleground in 2026, with candidates aligning themselves closely with President Trump’s political priorities.
