Former KTVU-TV anchor Frank Somerville was arrested again this week in Oakland, marking his fourth arrest in the past five years, as reported by The New York Post.

Authorities say the 67-year-old former broadcaster was taken into custody Monday evening following a reported altercation with his adult daughter.

A former Bay Area television anchor has been arrested once again. This is the fourth arrest for 67-year-old Frank Somerville in nearly five years. On Monday, Somerville was booked into the Santa Rita Jail for suspicion of assault. He bailed out on Tuesday morning.

The Oakland Police Department confirmed it is investigating an assault reported just before 5:45 p.m., but did not publicly identify those involved. Alameda County Sheriff’s Office inmate records show Somerville was booked and later released on bail.

Somerville, who was removed from the anchor desk at the Bay Area station after a string of personal and legal troubles, acknowledged the incident in a Facebook post.

He claimed his daughter, whom he described as a “full-blown weed addict,” arrived at his home in withdrawal and demanded money.

He wrote that he told her to leave, but that they “got into a physical fight” as he tried to calm her down. According to Somerville, his daughter then left, and he called his ex-wife, who expressed fear that their daughter might confront her as well.

When Somerville went to his ex-wife’s house, he said police were waiting for him after his daughter reported the fight. He added that his daughter told officers she did not want to press charges.

“I love my daughter more than anything in the world. I would never deliberately try to hurt her. But bad things happen in battle. I can only hope my daughter gets treatment,” Somerville wrote online.

He also stated that he has been sober for nine months and was “completely sober” during the incident.

This latest arrest ended what had been a two-year period without legal trouble for Somerville, whose past includes multiple arrests linked to alcohol use.

In 2021, Somerville admitted he was “trashed” when he drove into another vehicle during a late-night taco run. That same year, he appeared on a live broadcast slurring his words, an incident he later attributed to mistakenly taking Ambien.

In June 2023, Somerville was arrested twice in one night. The first incident stemmed from a fight with his brother, while the second occurred after police found him intoxicated and sitting in his car.

Somerville has said his struggles with alcohol were worsened by his divorce, which began shortly after his first arrest in 2021. He has publicly expressed regret for his actions and has spoken about his efforts to maintain sobriety.

The Oakland Police Department’s investigation into the reported assault remains ongoing.
