Former NFL head coach Eric Mangini has pointed to pop singer Taylor Swift as a possible factor behind Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce’s drop in production during the 2024 season, as reported by Page Six.
Kelce, who posted a career-low 823 receiving yards last year, has been under public scrutiny following the Chiefs’ failure to achieve a historic Super Bowl three-peat.
Mangini, who previously coached the New York Jets and Cleveland Browns, commented this week that Kelce’s personal life may have played a role in his on-field performance.

“He had the relationship, he had the new TV show, he had the game show, he had the podcast, he was coming off a back-to-back short offseason,” Mangini said. “That is a lot of stuff for a guy that is that late in his career.”
Kelce, 35, and Swift, also 35, have been in a high-profile relationship since 2023. Their public appearances together have drawn widespread media attention throughout the 2024 NFL season.
Mangini’s remarks come amid ongoing speculation over whether the eight-time Pro Bowler is considering retirement. “He looks like he is taking some time to reload,” Mangini added, joining others who have speculated that 2025 could be Kelce’s final year in the league.
Kelce signed a two-year, $34.25 million contract extension in April 2024. His brother, Jason Kelce, retired from the NFL in March 2024, prompting questions about whether Travis might follow a similar path.

Reports suggest the couple has been using the offseason to spend time away from public attention. “Taylor and Travis are soaking up every minute of this slower season together,” an anonymous source told Page Six.
“They’ve been splitting their time between New York, Nashville, and a few quiet getaways, just enjoying each other’s company without all the usual chaos. This kind of downtime is rare for both of them, and it’s really allowed their bond to deepen.”
As the 2025 NFL season approaches, analysts and fans alike are watching closely to see if Kelce can rebound from what was statistically his least productive season since becoming one of the league’s top tight ends.
