Former OneRepublic bassist Tim Myers announced Thursday that he will run for Congress as a Democrat in California via a video shared to his verified Instagram account.
In the video, which appears to have been filmed inside a recording studio, Myers said he will run for Congress in California’s 41st District, challenging incumbent Republican Rep. Ken Calvert.
“I’m a pastor’s son who grew up learning how to stretch a dollar in Corona, California. I turned a love of music into a career,” Myers said. “I saw how the industry took advantage of people, so I built a business that puts artists first. It reminds me a lot of what we’re seeing right now. The people in charge are screwing us over just to make a buck.”
“Trump, Musk and these clowns in Washington are cutting cancer research, veterans’ health care and getting into trade wars, making everything we buy more expensive, all while giving billionaires another tax cut they don’t need. And where’s my hometown Congressman? Ken Calvert has been in Washington for 30 years, and all he’s done is make himself millions. The status quo isn’t working,” he claimed.
Myers was OneRepublic’s bassist for five years and then started the record label Palladium, according to Billboard. He has also written and produced songs for artists such as Aloe Blacc, Kesha and Five For Fighting.
Republicans hold a less than two-point registration advantage in California’s 41st District, which stretches from the Los Angeles suburbs to Palm Springs, The Associated Press reported. Calvert, whose campaign has secured over $1.3 million in 2025’s first quarter, is a major target for House Democrats in 2026, according to the outlet. In a statement reacting to Myers’ congressional bid, Chris Martinez, a House Republicans campaign arm spokesman, said the former OneRepublic bassist is “everything wrong with today’s radical left: a Hollywood liberal trying to fake his way into Riverside County.”
A spokesperson for Calvert’s office told the Daily Caller via email that Calvert is “keeping promises made to voters” and “working to deliver results.”
“The Calvert campaign has not skipped a beat in raising the resources necessary to communicate with voters in the 41st Congressional District. Ken Calvert has demonstrated time and time again that he’s an effective advocate for Riverside County in the House of Representatives in addition to being a candidate that can win some of the most hotly contested Congressional races in the county. In the House, Congressman Calvert is keeping promises made to voters by securing operational control of the border, deporting criminal illegal immigrants, and bolstering our national defense. While Democrats scramble to find another out of touch liberal to run in the 41st District, Congressman Calvert is working to deliver results and raise the critical resources he’ll need to combat the radical Democrats in Washington, D.C. and Sacramento that are desperate to defeat him,” the spokesperson said.
