Teixeira, 45, will seek the seat currently held by Rep. Chip Roy, who last week announced he will not run for re-election as he pursues the office of Texas Attorney General.

“It takes teamwork to win, and I’m ready to help defend President Trump’s America First agenda, Texas families, and individual liberty.”
Teixeira emphasized his support for conservative priorities, saying his candidacy would focus on ensuring prosperity and freedom for his district in the years ahead.
“I’m running to ensure District 21 remains prosperous and free for generations to come,” he added.

His announcement comes after Roy confirmed his decision to step away from the congressional seat to pursue the state’s top legal office.
In a campaign video posted to X, Roy said his bid for Texas Attorney General would be rooted in continuing the state’s legacy of liberty and independence.
“Texas has a long and proud tradition of rising to defend our homes, our freedom, and our communities,” Roy said in the video.
He added that he is running for Attorney General “to carry on that legacy… unafraid to fight, unafraid to win, and unafraid to defend Texas at every turn. #LiveFree.”

In his own announcement, Teixeira praised Roy’s work in Congress and highlighted his service to the district. “I want to thank Chip Roy for representing our district with unwavering courage,” Teixeira said.
Teixeira’s candidacy introduces a new dynamic to a race that will be closely watched both in Texas and nationally.
The district, which stretches across parts of central Texas including portions of Austin and San Antonio, has been represented by Republicans for decades.
With Roy stepping aside, the race is expected to draw attention from multiple conservative contenders as the primary approaches.
The former Major League Baseball player brings a high-profile name to the contest.
Teixeira spent 14 seasons in the majors, beginning his career with the Texas Rangers in 2003.
Over the course of his career, he also played for the Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Angels before spending his final seasons with the Yankees.
Teixeira was widely regarded as one of the league’s best hitters during his career.
He won three Silver Slugger Awards, earned five Gold Gloves as a first baseman, and was named to three All-Star teams.
He finished his career with a .269 batting average and 409 home runs.
His achievements include helping the Yankees capture the 2009 World Series championship.
The election for Texas’ 21st Congressional District will take place in November 2026, with the primary scheduled for March.
Teixeira’s entry into the race adds a well-known name and a former professional athlete to the growing field of candidates vying to succeed Roy in the district.
