New information has emerged regarding the condition of Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher, more than a decade after the devastating ski accident that removed him from public view, as reported by The New York Post.

According to a report published Monday by the Daily Mail, Schumacher is no longer bedridden following the 2013 accident in the French Alps that left him with a severe head injury.

Sources cited by the outlet said Schumacher, now 57, “is now sitting up in a wheelchair” and can be wheeled around his private residences in Majorca and Switzerland.

Schumacher was injured in December 2013 while skiing off-piste in the French Alps when he fell and struck his head on a rock.

The accident resulted in a traumatic brain injury and months of hospitalization.

Since then, the seven-time Formula 1 world champion has remained largely out of the public eye, with his family maintaining strict privacy regarding his medical condition.

The Daily Mail report states Schumacher continues to receive round-the-clock care from a dedicated medical team, including nurses and therapists, who “keep a 24-hour watch.”

His wife, Corinna Schumacher, whom he married in 1995, remains closely involved in his daily care and decision-making.

Speculation about Schumacher’s condition has circulated for years, fueled by the lack of official updates and the family’s refusal to allow photographs or public appearances.

Some rumors had suggested Schumacher could only communicate through eye movements or blinking. However, one insider quoted in the report described a different situation.

“The feeling is he understands some of the things going on around him, but probably not all of them,” the source said.

While Schumacher’s health has remained private, his family has faced other public challenges in recent years. In 2025, three individuals were convicted of attempted blackmail against the Schumacher family.

According to the BBC, the case involved threats to release hundreds of private photos and videos on the dark web unless the family paid a multi-million-dollar ransom.

In 2024, reports also surfaced suggesting Schumacher might make an appearance at his daughter’s wedding. Those claims were later dismissed by a family confidant, who pushed back on the speculation in comments reported by The Sun.

Before his retirement from Formula 1 in 2012, Schumacher built one of the most dominant careers in the sport’s history.

He won seven world championships and recorded 91 Grand Prix victories, achievements that stood as records for years and cemented his status as one of motorsport’s most successful drivers.

The latest report marks one of the most detailed updates on Schumacher’s condition in years, offering a rare glimpse into his ongoing recovery more than a decade after the accident that abruptly ended his public life.
