Federal authorities are searching for four migrant detainees who escaped from a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention center in Newark, New Jersey, during a riot involving approximately 50 detainees.

According to Homeland Security sources, all four escapees were in custody on charges related to assault and burglary.

The men were identified as Franklin Norberto Bautista-Reyes and Joel Enrique Sandoval-Lopez, both nationals of Honduras, and Joan Sebastian Castaneda-Lozada and Andres Pineda-Mogollon, both from Colombia.

They escaped during a disturbance inside the Delaney Hall detention facility, which is operated by private prison company GEO Group.

The riot reportedly broke out after detainees became upset over what they described as poor quality and delays in meal service, NJ.com reported.

During the uprising, detainees managed to push down a wall of a third-floor dormitory. Some individuals reportedly used makeshift ropes fashioned from bedsheets to descend from the upper floor and flee the building.

According to the Department of Homeland Security, Bautista-Reyes had been arrested in May on multiple charges, including aggravated assault, attempting to cause bodily injury, making terroristic threats, and possessing a weapon for unlawful purposes.

Sandoval-Lopez had been arrested twice within the past year—once for unlawful possession of a handgun and again in February for aggravated assault.

Castaneda-Lozada was in custody following his arrest in May for burglary, theft, and conspiracy to commit burglary.

Pineda-Mogollon was being held on charges of residential burglary, conspiracy to commit residential burglary, and possession of burglary tools.

Officials confirmed that Sandoval-Lopez entered the United States illegally as a minor in 2019.

The other three individuals crossed into the country during the Biden-Harris administration.

Several law enforcement agencies responded to emergency calls from the Delaney Hall facility after the escape was reported.

The facility, operated by GEO Group, began operations in May following a $900 million contract awarded during the Trump administration.

Earlier the same day, dozens of individuals gathered to protest outside the facility.

The protest follows heightened scrutiny of Delaney Hall, particularly after several House Democrats reportedly forced their way into the building last month.

One of those lawmakers, Rep. LaMonica McIver (D-NJ), was charged with assaulting a federal officer during the incident.

Acting U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey, Alina Habba, announced the charges against McIver on Monday.

In response to the escape, the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI are offering a $10,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest of the four fugitives.

A senior DHS official told the New York Post that “additional law enforcement partners” have been brought in to assist with the search.

The agency is urging members of the public to come forward with any information that may help locate the escapees.

“We encourage the public to call 911 or the ICE Tip Line: 866-DHS-2-ICE if they have information that may lead to the locating of these individuals,” the official said.

The investigation remains ongoing, and no further details have been released regarding the current whereabouts of the escapees or whether any other detainees were involved in the incident beyond the four men identified.
