Fox News Senior White House Correspondent Jacqui Heinrich said Thursday that the Biden-Harris administration’s press office actively worked to discredit and intimidate reporters who raised concerns about Joe Biden’s mental and physical fitness during his time in office.

Heinrich made the remarks while filling in for co-host Dana Perino on “America’s Newsroom.”

She responded to a question from anchor Bill Hemmer, who asked how the White House and other members of the press corps reacted when she raised questions about Biden’s condition.

“Well, you know, for about three years they would go like this,” Heinrich said, leaning away from Hemmer to mimic her colleagues’ reactions.

“They don’t want to be associated.”

Hemmer followed up by asking, “Who?” to which Heinrich responded, “The rest of the press, because the White House was very effective in maligning anyone who was skeptical about the president’s age and abilities as a bad actor, as someone who is not a good journalist.”

“They abused us, too,” Heinrich continued.

“I had people in the press office tell me I was not a good reporter because I was asking questions about these things with sourcing. It was the snap reaction a lot of the time rather than actually going to the people who I got the information from and having them confirm it. They would just like to shut down that discussion.”

Heinrich’s comments add to growing scrutiny over how the Biden White House handled concerns about the president’s cognitive and physical health, particularly during the latter part of his term and leading up to the 2024 election, which his party lost to President Donald Trump.

A recent book titled Original Sin by CNN anchor Jake Tapper and Axios political reporter Alex Thompson revealed new details about Biden’s decline.

The book reported that Biden failed to recognize actor George Clooney at a 2023 fundraiser, raising fresh questions about his memory and awareness.

Even during his presidency, signs of Biden’s cognitive struggles were observed.

On multiple occasions, he made references to deceased political figures as though they were still alive.

In February 2024, he twice claimed to have spoken with former French President Francois Mitterrand, who died in 1996, and former German Chancellor Helmut Kohl, who passed away in 2017.

Perhaps one of the most widely covered instances occurred in September 2022 when Biden asked for Rep. Jackie Walorski (R-IN) during a White House event focused on hunger and food insecurity. Walorski had been killed in a car accident a month earlier.

In response to repeated physical stumbles while boarding Air Force One, the White House quietly began directing Biden to use a shorter staircase on the aircraft during his later years in office.

The move followed several publicized incidents, including a fall at the Air Force Academy in June 2023 and another in June 2022 when Biden fell off his bicycle while riding near his home in Delaware.

The Wall Street Journal and other outlets reported on the president’s declining acuity during the final years of his presidency.

Though the reports cited multiple sources, some in the media and Democratic Party dismissed them, labeling the claims as politically motivated or unsubstantiated.

On July 21, 2024, Biden officially ended his reelection campaign.

By that time, concerns about his health had become impossible to ignore.

Reports continued to emerge detailing private moments where Biden appeared confused, forgetful, or detached.

As scrutiny builds over how the administration and segments of the press handled public concern, Heinrich’s remarks reflect what some in Washington have described as a coordinated effort to protect the president from questions that many Americans were already asking.
