A neighbor of Travis Decker, the fugitive father accused of killing his three young daughters, described their final conversation as “weird” and noted Decker appeared sad and unrecognizable shortly before the girls were reported missing, as reported by The New York Post.
Binh Nguyen, a longtime neighbor in Wenatchee, Washington, told People that he briefly spoke with Decker, 32, on May 30—the day Decker picked up his daughters, Evelyn, 8, Paityn, 9, and Olivia, 5, for a scheduled custody visit.
“He was skinny. He had long hair and a beard. I said, ‘Is that you, Travis?’” Nguyen recalled.
“It was kind of weird. He had a sad face.”

Decker, who Nguyen said always seemed like a devoted father, was polite but distracted during their 10-minute conversation. “He asked how I was three times,” Nguyen said.
Nguyen remembered Decker as a “girl dad” who frequently took his daughters camping in the Cascade Mountains even after his separation from their mother, Whitney Decker, in 2022. Decker had since become homeless but remained involved in his daughters’ lives.
“They loved him a lot, and he loved them too,” Nguyen said.

On May 30, Decker had a court-approved three-hour visitation with the children starting at 5 p.m. When he failed to return them at 8 p.m. as scheduled and calls to his phone went unanswered, Whitney Decker contacted law enforcement.
Three days later, the girls’ bodies were discovered near Decker’s abandoned pickup truck. Each of the children had a plastic bag placed over her head and zip ties on her wrists.
The investigation quickly escalated into a manhunt for Decker, a former soldier with specialized military training. Despite weeks of searching, authorities have not located him.
This week, law enforcement acknowledged for the first time that Decker may no longer be alive. Cadaver dogs were deployed in recent days as the search enters its fourth week with no confirmed sightings or leads.
Travis Decker remains officially listed as a fugitive, and authorities continue to pursue all possibilities as they attempt to bring closure to a case that has deeply shaken the Wenatchee community.
