President Donald Trump is set to deliver an economic address Tuesday in Detroit, Michigan, as his administration looks ahead to the 2026 midterm elections and highlights recent economic indicators it says show progress under his policies.
The planned remarks were discussed during an exchange between Fox News anchor Sandra Smith and White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, who outlined what the president intends to emphasize.
Smith began the discussion by confirming details of the upcoming speech and asking what message the president plans to deliver.
“Tomorrow, we expect the President to deliver a message on the economy, a programming alert for our viewers. We believe that will be happening. Is it two o’clock Eastern time or two o’clock local Detroit? Well, it is, Detroit is Eastern Time, two o’clock Eastern time. So we’ll carry that right here. What will his message be now, just months from the midterm elections, what really will he dial into as his winning message on the economy?” Smith asked.
Leavitt responded by pointing to what she described as a sustained focus by the president on lowering costs for Americans since returning to office.
“Well, President Trump, since January, 20 of last year, has been laser focused on making America affordable again, and he is doing just that,” Leavitt said.
She said the president’s visit to Michigan will include a stop at a manufacturing facility producing Ford F-150 trucks, which she linked directly to the administration’s trade policies.

“So tomorrow, he looks forward to traveling to the great state of Michigan, a state he won big to not only tour a factory that produces Ford f1 50s, and is going to be hiring more and producing more trucks right here in the USA because of President Trump’s effective tariff policies,” Leavitt said.
Leavitt said the economic address will focus on what the administration views as positive trends across several key measures.
“But the President is also going to deliver an economic address where he’s going to talk about all of the positive economic news that we continue to see as a result of his agenda,” she said.
She cited specific figures on housing, fuel, and inflation.
“We have mortgage rates that are falling under 6% for the first time in years. Today, the national average of gasoline is the lowest that it’s been in five years. We have core inflation at its lowest level in five years,” Leavitt said.
Leavitt argued that the president’s approach has a proven track record and said voters will see the benefits continue to build.
“And so with a little bit of patience, the American people are going to continue to see that the best is yet to come. President Trump has a proven economic formula that works. He delivered on it in his first term, he’s delivering on it now,” she said.
She also pointed to tax legislation signed last year that she said will soon provide direct financial relief to middle-class families.
“And in 2026 people in Michigan and in every state across the country are going to see more money in their pockets thanks to President Trump’s working families tax cut that he signed into law last year, those tax rebates will go into effect this year, and the average American, middle class American can look forward to up to $1,000 back into their wallets because of those signature tax cuts,” Leavitt said.
Leavitt added that the administration’s economic agenda extends beyond current measures, with additional policy efforts underway.
“So the best is yet to come. There’s a lot of positive economic news out there. The President’s not going to stop working. He has housing plans in the works. He has a health care plan in the works,” she said.
She concluded by saying the president plans to continue traveling and speaking directly to voters across the country.
“And so you’ll continue to hear from the President, and he’ll continue to hit the road across the country to speak directly with the people he loves most, the American People,” Leavitt said.
