Retired U.S. Army Lieutenant General Michael Flynn, who served as National Security Advisor under President Donald Trump, issued a sharp rebuke of former CIA Director and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo this week following the release of newly declassified intelligence documents that place former President Barack Obama at the center of the Trump-Russia collusion investigation.
Flynn’s public statement, posted on X, came in response to Pompeo’s own comments about the declassified materials.
Flynn accused Pompeo of failing to act when he held positions of power, saying he remained silent while critical intelligence was politicized.

“[Mike Pompeo] You were the CIA Director and the Secretary of State with access to all of it—yet you said nothing and did nothing when you could have stopped it all,” Flynn wrote.
“Please go away. The American people are done with you!”
Pompeo had posted his remarks on Tuesday after Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard released newly declassified presidential briefing documents.
The documents reportedly detail how senior Obama administration officials were aware that the Trump-Russia narrative was unfounded, yet allowed the investigation to proceed.

“The notion that President Trump ‘colluded’ with Russia has always been false, and the politicization of our intelligence services in the service of that hoax did enormous damage to public trust,” Pompeo wrote on X.
He also released a video expanding on his position, criticizing both the original narrative and the administration’s approach to foreign policy.
“If you’re Vladimir Putin, would you rather have Joe Biden or Donald Trump as the President of the United States? The answer is really easy,” Pompeo stated.
“You invaded Ukraine when President Biden was there. You invaded Ukraine when President Obama was there. You didn’t touch the darn thing when President Trump was there. I think it actually proves itself.”
Pompeo continued, “We provided defensive weapon systems to Ukraine. Obama refused. Biden didn’t want to do it. We made energy prices low by building, building, building here—drilling, drilling, drilling here. That hurt Putin dramatically. We put an enormous number of sanctions on the Russian regime. We had real deterrence.”
He added that he believes Trump would bring the same policies and outcomes in a second term.
“This narrative that somehow President Trump, or Donald Trump, was a Russian asset or connected to Putin, or that Putin had some goods on him, has always been false. It’s always been known to be false, and yet was distributed by the mainstream media and by a White House that was determined to push back against the lost election,” Pompeo said.

Flynn, who was one of the earliest targets of the Trump-Russia investigation and was later cleared following multiple legal proceedings, has consistently stated that high-level officials had full knowledge the investigation was politically motivated.
Flynn’s comments reignited scrutiny around how the intelligence community and senior officials handled the matter during and after the 2016 election cycle.
His criticism of Pompeo focused specifically on Pompeo’s roles as CIA Director and Secretary of State, suggesting he had the authority and opportunity to expose the false narrative, but failed to do so.
The fallout from the declassified briefings continues to raise questions about the conduct of intelligence and political leaders in the lead-up to and during President Trump’s first term.
