The Georgia Senate has initiated an investigation into Stacey Abrams and her nonprofit organization, The New Georgia Project, over allegations of illegal fundraising activity.
The probe comes as part of a broader examination by the state legislature into campaign finance violations.
According to Atlanta News First, “Abrams and the New Georgia Project, from which she is no longer affiliated, are being investigated by the same Senate panel that has been examining Fulton County DA Fani Willis’ historic indictment of Donald Trump during the time he was out of the Oval Office.”

The Senate committee’s focus will be on potential campaign finance violations and recent firings within The New Georgia Project, which are reportedly linked to efforts by employees to unionize.
The investigation follows the resignation of Francys Johnson, the head of The New Georgia Project, after the organization was fined for campaign finance violations.
The nonprofit, founded by Abrams in 2013 to increase voter registration efforts among black voters, has faced scrutiny for its financial activities.
In January, the State Ethics Commission imposed a $300,000 fine on The New Georgia Project for illegal fundraising.

A five-year investigation revealed that the organization raised $4.2 million in untraceable “dark money” and spent $3.2 million on campaign-related activities, according to a report from Fox 5 Atlanta.
Abrams, who lost the Georgia gubernatorial race twice to Republican Brian Kemp, has frequently alleged voter suppression, particularly among black voters, though she has not provided concrete evidence to support these claims.
Meanwhile, another nonprofit linked to Abrams is also drawing attention for receiving a significant federal grant.
Earlier this month, it was revealed that Joe Biden’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) awarded $2 billion to Power Forward Communities, a newly established nonprofit with ties to Abrams.
The grant raised eyebrows after it was discovered that the organization had only reported $100 in revenue in its first three months of operation in 2023.
The Washington Free Beacon reported that Power Forward Communities received the funding as part of the $20 billion in federal grants recovered by former New York Congressman Lee Zeldin.
The massive award to an organization with such limited financial history has prompted calls for further scrutiny.
Elon Musk’s DOGE account on X was among the first to highlight the EPA’s financial transaction, drawing widespread attention to the matter.
As investigations into Abrams’ nonprofit activities continue, calls for further probes at both the state and federal levels are growing.
The Georgia Senate’s review of The New Georgia Project’s fundraising practices is expected to shed more light on the organization’s financial dealings and potential campaign finance violations.
