Ghouls: AOC Ridicules Charlie Kirk, Fewer Than Half of House Dems Support Resolution

Good Lord. House Democrats can’t even get the easy stuff right. 

House Republicans offered a resolution ahead of this weekend’s memorial for Charlie Kirk condemning his assassination and honoring his public life. These kinds of resolutions usually generate little publicity and even less pushback, as these measures do nothing more than express sentiment rather than legislate in any way. Three months ago, the House passed a similar resolution honoring Democrat state legislators killed by a deranged political operative in Minnesota, who later ludicrously claimed to be working on Tim Walz’ orders so Walz could get a Senate seat.  That resolution passed unanimously with nearly all members voting, 424-0.

Today, however, fewer than half of House Democrats cast an aye for the Kirk resolution, with 58 nays and a rather significant number of Democrats voting ‘present’ or hiding:

Notably, Democratic leaders and nearly 100 rank-and-file Democrats joined Republican to adopt the measure on a 310-58 vote. …

Fifty-eight Democrats opposed the resolution; another 38 voted present and 22 didn’t vote at all. (Only three Democrats had failed to vote on the measure taken up immediately prior to the Kirk resolution.)

How dumb is this? Yesterday, Democrats caucused to have a big discussion over this resolution, and yet no one could figure out that they were stepping into a trap of their own creation. Had they just passed it on a voice vote, no one would have cared. Instead, House Democrats turned this into A Very Big Deal, arguing over whether they should decide to vote as a bloc or allow members to dissent and set themselves up for some pretty sharp criticism. Hakeem Jeffries told the caucus that he planned to vote aye, but that he wouldn’t whip the vote.

All this over a “sense of the House” resolution with no policy stakes whatsoever. It was a freebie, in fact, to show that they actually did give a damn that Kirk got murdered for his politics, which was the case with the earlier resolution as well. House Republicans wisely supported that and avoided looking like idiots.

So what were the objections? 

But there were clear concerns inside the Democratic ranks with some of the measure’s language praising Kirk “as a model for young Americans across the political spectrum” who was known for “engaging in respectful, civil discourse across college campuses, media platforms, and national forums, always seeking to elevate truth, foster understanding, and strengthen the Republic.”

Seriously? Fifty-eight Democrats voted against the resolution for objecting to that?

But it gets even worse, or stupider, or both. Rather than just quietly register disapproval for a nothingburger with their votes, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez decided to take to the floor to slag Charlie as someone who “sought to disenfranchize millions of Americans.” No, really:

Yes, by all means, attack a dead man in a political assassination. What could possibly go politically wrong with that? And be sure to accuse the man who came to college campuses to talk and debate with all comers in peaceful exchanges as someone who “sought to disenfranchize millions of Americans,” because that makes total sense. 

You know what would work even better? AOC should twerk on Charlie’s grave. I bet that would really impress voters with the gravitas of Democrat leadership in this cycle. 

Where was Jeffries during this harangue? Where were any of the House Democrat leadership? 

These radical Democrats are ghouls. And they want us all dead. AOC is even less interested in dialing down the temperature than Jimmy Kimmel, and instead want to keep firing up the radicals for more street action. 

Let’s hope the memorial this weekend goes smoothly and focuses on the ways in which Charlie Kirk tried to lead people away from this madness. And let us also hope that voters who put these ghouls in office repent soon and send them packing.
