Pennsylvania state Rep. Kate Klunk said she will continue pushing for legislation aimed at protecting girls’ sports in the state after House Democrats once again moved the Women’s Sports Act to another committee instead of bringing it to a vote.

Klunk, a former athlete and coach who now serves as chairwoman of the Children Youth Committee, spoke about the issue during remarks addressing the legislative process surrounding the bill.

The proposal has been repeatedly sent to committees rather than advancing to a full vote in the Pennsylvania House.

Klunk said the measure is focused on protecting opportunities for girls in athletics and ensuring they have spaces where they can compete and develop as athletes.

“I will vote every single day to protect my daughters, to protect little girls in this Commonwealth. And you know what that is? What that committee does, it stands up for our children, and I will do that every single day,” Klunk said.

The lawmaker criticized the decision to send the bill to yet another committee, arguing that it has prevented a direct vote on the legislation.

“So once again, House Democrats are putting our daughters at risk. Today, they voted to forward the stable women’s sports act to yet another committee I have completely lost track of how many times we could have voted on this but didn’t,” Klunk said.

The Women’s Sports Act has been part of a broader national debate over policies governing participation in women’s athletics.

Supporters of the measure say it is designed to preserve fairness in girls’ and women’s sports by establishing clear participation guidelines.

Klunk described her perspective on the issue by pointing to her personal background in athletics.

“Look, I am a proud former athlete. I’m a proud coach Kate. I’m a proud mom, and I will stand up every single day for my daughters,” she said.

She said the issue is about ensuring young girls can participate in sports and develop both competitively and personally through athletics.

“Their teammates, our little girls deserve a safe space to play, to learn about themselves, to learn what they’re capable of, what their challenges are, to learn about defeat and also winning,” Klunk said.

Klunk also addressed the role of the committee she currently leads and said she intends to push the legislation forward if it comes before the Children Youth Committee.

“Chairwoman and Mr. Chairman as the chairwoman of the Children Youth Committee. If this is where we put it, I will gladly fight to bring up this bill,” Klunk said.

She reiterated that protecting girls in sports is central to her position.

“I will vote every single day to protect my daughters, to protect little girls in this Commonwealth. And you know what that is? What that committee does? It stands up for our children. And I will do that every single day, and I will vote yes,” Klunk said.

Klunk concluded her remarks by emphasizing her readiness to continue advocating for the legislation.

“I’m ready to rock and roll. I’m ready to stand up for your daughters and mine,” she said.

The bill’s movement through committees means it will continue to be debated within the legislature before any potential vote by the full House.

Supporters of the proposal say it is intended to ensure that girls’ sports remain a protected category for female athletes.

The issue has drawn significant attention across several states as lawmakers debate policies governing participation in women’s athletics.

In Pennsylvania, the Women’s Sports Act remains under consideration as legislative committees review the proposal and determine whether it will move forward in the legislative process.
