GOP’s Latest Bills Could Leave Liberals Fuming for Years

Republican lawmakers are seeking to recognize President Donald Trump for his achievements in office, particularly his role in Middle East peace efforts, by nominating him for the Nobel Peace Prize and introducing legislation to feature his image on U.S. currency.

Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) announced Monday that he had officially nominated Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Issa’s deputy chief of staff and communications director, Jonathan Wilcox, told The Hill that Trump’s commitment to peace made him a deserving candidate.

“From the time of his election and after being sworn in, President Trump has inspired and promoted the cause of peace – and in a way we have not heard in many years,” Wilcox stated.

“His advocacy is an aspiration of a world without war, and we are seeing this come into focus in several regions of the world today – not just one.”

This is not the first time Trump has been put forward for the prestigious award. On Jan. 30, Rep. Claudia Tenney (R-NY) also nominated him, citing his success in brokering the Abraham Accords, which normalized relations between Israel and Bahrain, Morocco, Sudan, and the United Arab Emirates.

Additional support for the nomination has come from Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY), and National Security Advisor Mike Waltz.

Trump previously expressed his belief that he deserved the Nobel Peace Prize.

In 2019, he stated that while he had been considered, he doubted he would ever receive it.

Reports from Axios and the Associated Press indicated that former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe had nominated Trump, though The Guardian noted that Abe refused to confirm or deny the nomination.

In addition to the Nobel Peace Prize nomination, Rep. Brandon Gill (R-TX) introduced the Golden Age Act on Monday, a bill that would place Trump’s face on the U.S. $100 bill.

“President Trump could be enjoying his golden years golfing and spending time with his family,” Gill told Fox News.

“Instead, he took a bullet for this country and is now working overtime to secure our border, fix our uneven trade relationship with the rest of the world, make America energy independent again and put America first by ending useless foreign aid.”

The proposed legislation calls for replacing Benjamin Franklin’s image with Trump’s.

If passed, the bill would require the Treasury Secretary to release a preliminary design by the end of 2026, with the goal of putting the redesigned bill into circulation by 2029.

Rep. Joe Wilson (R-SC) introduced a similar measure on Feb. 27, proposing the creation of a $250 bill featuring Trump’s likeness.

Additional proposals have been put forward to recognize Trump’s presidency.

Rep. Addison McDowell (R-NC) suggested renaming Washington Dulles International Airport to Donald J. Trump International Airport.

Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) introduced a separate bill to carve Trump’s face onto Mount Rushmore, further cementing his legacy in American history.

While these efforts have gained attention, it remains to be seen how far they will advance in Congress.
