During an ABC News segment, anchor Jon Karl confronted House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) with polling data showing strong public support for several Trump-aligned policies.
Karl asked Jeffries whether there were any Trump initiatives he supported, but Jeffries avoided a direct answer, instead saying the discussion was “just at the beginning.”
Referencing a recent Marquette University poll, Karl highlighted several key policies that have significant backing among Americans:
- 63% support the federal government recognizing only two sexes.
- 60% favor deporting immigrants who entered the U.S. illegally.
- 60% support expanding oil and gas production.
- 59% favor declaring an emergency at the southern border.

Karl pointed out that these policies are central to Trump’s agenda and directly questioned Jeffries on whether he found any of them to be worthwhile.
“Donald Trump’s favorability rating is actually higher than it ever was the first time around,” Karl stated.
“Let me ask you, a recent poll by Marquette looked at several of the things that he has done or says that he is going to do, and 63% favor the federal government’s recognition of only two sexes. 60% favor deporting immigrants who entered the United States illegally. 60% favor expanding oil and gas production. 59% favor declaring an emergency at the southern border. Is there anything you are seeing that Trump is doing that you are in favor of, that you think is the right thing?”
Rather than addressing any of the specific policy points, Jeffries deflected, offering a vague response that suggested Democrats had yet to fully engage in discussions on these issues.
“Let me say, as it relates to all of those issues, we’re just at the beginning,” Jeffries said.
Hakeem Jeffries left grasping for a response after ABC’s Jon Karl reads off massive favorability numbers for Trump:

His response did not clarify whether he supports or opposes any of the policies Karl referenced, leaving his stance ambiguous despite the clear polling numbers showing broad public approval for the measures.
Jeffries’ hesitation to acknowledge the widespread support for Trump’s policies reflects a growing disconnect between Democratic leadership and voter sentiment on key issues.
Immigration, energy policy, and border security remain central concerns for many Americans, and Trump’s agenda appears to align with majority opinion in these areas.
As Trump’s policies continue to resonate with the public, Jeffries and other Democratic leaders may face increasing pressure to respond directly to voter concerns rather than deflecting questions on key issues.
