Fox News host Harris Faulkner lit into corporate media for not covering a Wednesday press conference held by North Carolina Republicans in response to the stabbing of a Ukrainian refugee on a Charlotte light rail train.
Iryna Zarutska, who worked at an area pizza restaurant, was stabbed to death on Aug. 22 while returning home from work by DeCarlos Brown, a man with a lengthy criminal history. Fox News aired roughly 16 minutes and 34 seconds of the Republican press conference, with Faulkner cutting away as the Republicans stopped to pray for Zarutska and her family. “As they observe that moment of silence, we want to also observe who’s not covering this, because that has been part of the story and it is a shame,” Faulkner said. “We started off with the opening comments of Jason Simmons, who is the chairman of the Republican Party statewide in North Carolina and he said I want to thank all for covering this.”

“Our news competitors are not covering it, not the alphabet soup networks… that don’t spell anything like Fox, not cable. I’ve got, like, a big screen of other people up here so I can see some of those channels,” Faulkner continued. “And we’re covering this because it’s important and it isn’t just about politics. But it is interesting that Republicans have come out on this day and done something, that Democrats in that Democrat-led state and city have done nothing of the kind and that is to collectively, collectively come out against the criminal and for the victim.”
“Ana Cabrera Reports” on MSNBC focused on Democrats’ efforts to force the release of files and documents regarding registered sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and the Israeli strike on Hamas leaders in Qatar, while “The Situation Room” on CNN covered an incursion by Russian drones into Poland.
The incident went viral on social media after authorities released the video on Friday. Tesla CEO Elon Musk made multiple posts and also reposted other users on X who discussed the killing and the lack of coverage from corporate media.
Conservatives on social media are contrasting the lack of coverage by corporate media with how corporate media outlets covered the death of Jordan Neely, a man with a lengthy arrest record who died after being restrained by 24-year-old Daniel Penny, a Marine Corps veteran, May 1, 2023. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg secured an indictment of Penny for involuntary manslaughter, but a jury acquitted the Marine veteran of a lesser charge in December 2024.
