Hasan Piker Is the Psychopath the Left Loves

In a sane world, Hasan Piker would be a fringe figure whose appeal would be limited to losers with nothing better to do than watch a psychopath rant on Twitch–where he has nearly a billion views as the 8th most popular streamer. 

When you really want a serious and sensitive look at Charlie Kirk–you go to the guy who called Jews “inbred pigs” and said the US “deserved” 9-11.

We do not live in a sane world. Piker is, instead, very influential with a certain breed of leftist and has been featured in The New York Times, Vanity Fair, and POLITICO as a political commentator. After Charlie Kirk’s death, The New York Times went to Piker for his take on the assassination. 

“America deserved 9/11.” Those are the vile words of Hasan Piker.

Zohran Mamdani calls him a friend. Walks him around New York, appears on his shows, and embraces him even after those disgusting comments.

Piker is a friend and confidante of Zohran Mamdani, so that should give you an idea of his status as an up-and-comer. This, despite his applauding the terrorists who killed over 3000 people on 9/11. Never Forget, New York. Never Forget.

Ironically, while Piker has not been harmed by his calling for the murder of Republicans–he gleefully does so–he is taking a hit from something that is much worse: abusing his dog.

In a sense, I get why torturing a dog is seen as a worse crime than wanting blood to run in the streets. The latter is, we must admit, abstract in the sense that he has not carried out the act, and the hatred, while misplaced, is at least directed against people who could theoretically defend themselves. 

It is evil, but not, weirdly, inhumane. We understand hatred, even if we condemn it. 

Torturing a defenseless animal is, conversely, inhumane, and especially so when one is its owner and protector. Torturing a squirrel is psychopathic; torturing your dog should earn you the death penalty. I still feel vaguely guilty three years after my parrot died–perhaps I could have done something? I was his protector, and I failed. I don’t know exactly how, but that is how I feel to this day. 

I cannot imagine choosing to harm one of my pets. It strikes me as evil. 

Not so Hasan. He positively revels in it.

Ever since the first example of Piker shocking his dog was discovered, internet sleuths have been uncovering many more instances of Piker abusing his dog. There is something about these things that subverts our reason and goes directly to our limbic system, at least for me. 

There is a reason why the most popular part of my Sunday Smiles is the one with cat and dog videos. We love our animals with a fierce passion and loyalty.

Piker has leaned into the controversy, accusing the Jews, because of course he is, of coordinating a campaign to discredit him.

I doubt that the dog torture will finish Hasan off, either with his fans or with Pravda. They will still look to him for moral leadership.

But among ordinary people, something has changed. Rather than casually reading a piece that The New York Times puts in front of them as if it were written by a sane person, at least some will think–“Hey, isn’t that the guy who abuses his dog?

This is progressivism today—a guy in a tank top, in the West, praising a terror group that executes gay people, right in front of a pride flag.
