Actress Halle Berry renewed her public criticism of California Gov. Gavin Newsom this week, accusing him of ignoring women’s health issues after vetoing menopause-related legislation and warning that the issue could follow him should he seek the presidency, as reported by Fox News.

Berry’s latest comments came in an interview published Monday by The Cut, where she said she has not heard directly from Newsom’s administration despite his claims that the issue would be addressed in a future state budget proposal.

“It’s disturbing when people say they’re going to do things, and then they don’t,” Berry said.“But he heard what I said. If he is going to run to be our next president, he can’t sleep on women. Wake up, Gavin.”

The remarks follow Berry’s highly publicized criticism of Newsom in December during a speech at the Dealbook Summit, where she sharply condemned the governor for vetoing menopause care legislation two consecutive years.

Her comments at the event drew audible reactions from the audience and quickly circulated online.

“Back in my great state of California, my very own governor, Gavin Newsom, has vetoed our menopause bill, not one, but two years in a row,” Berry said at the time.

“But that’s OK, because he’s not going to be governor forever, and the way he has overlooked women, half the population, by devaluing us, he probably should not be our next president either. Just saying.”

Newsom responded shortly after those remarks, telling reporters that Berry “didn’t know” his administration was already working to address the issue.

He said menopause care would be included as part of his proposed 2026–2027 state budget.

However, Berry said in her interview with The Cut that she has yet to receive confirmation or details from the governor’s office regarding that proposal.

A spokesperson for Newsom pushed back on Berry’s renewed criticism, calling her comments “very unfortunate” in a statement to Fox News Digital.

The spokesperson said the governor’s latest budget proposal includes efforts aimed at supporting menopause care and provided a link to the draft legislation.

Fox News Digital also reached out to Berry’s representatives for comment.

This is not the first time Berry has publicly accused Newsom of mishandling the issue.

In November, she wrote an opinion piece for Time magazine criticizing California’s approach to menopause-related healthcare and placing responsibility on the governor’s office.

“It is enraging that women in California have to continue to wait for adequate and informed healthcare, when we were on the precipice of progress,” Berry wrote in the piece, arguing that the vetoes delayed meaningful action.

The dispute comes as Newsom continues to face national scrutiny amid speculation about his future political ambitions beyond California.

While Newsom has not formally announced any presidential plans, his policy decisions and public messaging have increasingly drawn attention well outside the state.

Berry’s comments add to growing pressure from activists and public figures demanding clarity on whether the administration’s budget proposal will meaningfully address menopause care or replace legislation that was previously vetoed.
