A gunman wearing tactical gear and armed with a rifle opened fire on U.S. Border Patrol agents outside a Border Patrol annex facility in McAllen, Texas, on Monday, according to law enforcement sources familiar with the incident.
The shooting occurred at the facility located in the Rio Grande Valley sector. Border Patrol agents and local law enforcement officers returned fire, ultimately killing the gunman.

No federal agents were reported injured in the exchange. One officer with the McAllen Police Department was struck during the gunfire and was transported to a local hospital. Authorities confirmed the officer is in stable condition.
In a statement to Fox News, the Department of Homeland Security said, “This morning an individual opened fired at the entrance of the United States Border Patrol sector annex in McAllen, Texas. Both Border Patrol agents and local police helped neutralize the shooter. This is an ongoing investigation led by the FBI. More information will be shared as it becomes available.”

Law enforcement officials believe the gunman specifically targeted Border Patrol agents in what is being described as a deliberate ambush.
Local police are expected to provide more details during a scheduled news conference later Monday.
The attack in McAllen comes on the heels of another violent incident involving federal law enforcement.
On Friday night, a police officer in Texas was shot near the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Prairieland Detention Facility.
Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche addressed the recent wave of violence on X, stating, “We are closely monitoring the attacks on DHS detention facilities in Prairieland, TX, and Portland, OR, and are coordinating with the [US Attorney offices] and our law enforcement partners.”
He added, “The Department [of Justice] has zero tolerance for assaults on federal officers or property and will bring the full weight of the law against those responsible.”

The Friday night incident occurred when an officer from the Alvarado Police Department responded to a call regarding a suspicious individual near the Prairieland facility at approximately 11 p.m.
As the officer attempted to engage with the suspect, gunfire broke out, and the officer was shot in the neck.
Emergency medical services airlifted the wounded officer to a hospital in Fort Worth.
He was later released following treatment.
Authorities arrested multiple armed suspects following the incident.
