Representative Chip Roy spoke out on the dangers of government overreach in financial regulations and data collection, advocating for significant changes to protect individual freedoms.
His comments highlight concerns over the misuse of surveillance tools, financial rules, and the potential implementation of a central digital bank currency (CBDC), which he views as a threat to American liberty.
In his statement, Roy criticized current government practices, emphasizing the need for immediate and lasting reforms.

“Here’s the deal. They want to use the power of government to go after you,” Roy said, warning of the potential for abuse in data collection and financial regulations.
To address these issues, Roy stressed the importance of permanent changes to existing laws. “We’ve got to make changes immediately to stop the problems and the abuses, but we need permanent changes,” he explained. “Permanent changes to FISA, permanent changes to the financial regulations and rules, all of the data they’re collecting on you—we’ve got to kill in the cradle.”
Roy also voiced strong opposition to the introduction of a central digital bank currency, arguing that it represents a significant threat to individual freedom and privacy.
“This whole idea of a central digital bank currency, because they want it to be able to control your life, is the opposite of what it means to be an American,” Roy said.
He emphasized the urgency of addressing this issue, identifying it as a top priority when Republicans gain control of Congress and the White House in January.
Despite his concerns, Roy expressed optimism about the potential for reform under a new Republican-led administration. “Thankfully, help is on the way. The Trump administration, Kash Patel, the people who have a healthy suspicion of big government—you got Elon and Vivek,” Roy stated.
He mentioned a recent meeting on cryptocurrency as a step toward addressing these challenges, adding, “We had a great meeting on Doge yesterday. We got help on the way.”
Looking ahead to January, Roy underscored the need for immediate action once Republicans control the House, Senate, and White House.
“That’s one of the main things we need to accomplish in January,” he said, pointing to reforms in FISA, financial regulations, and blocking the implementation of a central digital bank currency as critical tasks.
