Speaking at the World Forum on the Future of Democracy, Tech, and Humankind on Tuesday in Germany, Hillary Clinton wasted no time in attacking President Donald Trump’s administration, claiming that America is aligning itself with autocrats.
“There’s no way to sugarcoat it. There’s no way to explain it away,” Clinton said within the first minute of her speech.
“Autocracy is on the march, and we now have a government in the United States that has thrown in its lot with the autocrats.”

Clinton accused the Trump administration of empowering those who “wage war, not peace” and handing control to individuals who dominate the flow of information.
“That government,” she continued, “has made a choice to support those who wage war, not peace, who has given enormous power to the men who control the information flow in our world, who have all pledged allegiance to the continuation of algorithms that not only addict us, but poison us with hatred and fear.”
Clinton then shifted her remarks to the role of technology and Artificial Intelligence, arguing that they are at the center of the world’s current challenges.
“Information determines how we think, and how we think determines what we say, and what we say determines what we do,” Clinton said, framing the control of information as “the core issue facing our world today.”

Without naming Trump directly, she suggested that his supporters are being misled by disinformation.
“Where there are no facts that are agreed upon, that happen right before your eyes, and you have leaders telling you to ignore it, that Putin did not invade Ukraine, that Ukraine somehow brought it upon itself,” she added.
“Where there are no facts, there cannot be truth, and where there is no truth, there cannot be trust, and where there is no trust, there cannot be democracy and peace.”
Clinton concluded by warning that artificial intelligence and the weaponization of technology would continue to serve authoritarian interests “unless we act now.”
Following Clinton’s remarks, former President Bill Clinton continued the theme, portraying American voters who elected Trump as indifferent to global affairs.
“And now we’re fighting this rise in autocracy, where everybody says, ‘Oh, I’m so tired, I don’t want to think about this anymore,’” he said.
He then described how voters prioritize their own economic concerns, mocking those who struggle with paying bills and affording basic necessities as indifferent to world events.
“‘Oh, I know it’s unfortunate what’s happening in Russia, but what can I do about it?’” Clinton continued.
“‘And I really like this macho person who talks tough, acts tough, and relieves me of any of the burdens of thinking about all this stuff. I mean, I have a job to do every day, I got bills to pay, I’ve got costs to worry about. What do I care? What do I know?’”

This is not the first time Clinton has criticized Americans who support Trump.
In the final days of the 2024 presidential election, she infamously compared Trump supporters to Nazi rally attendees at a Madison Square Garden event.

The forum in Germany, where Clinton once again compared Trump and his supporters to authoritarian forces, comes as speculation grows about her continued involvement in Democratic politics.
