Finally, we may have what America genuinely needs … an undisputed, genuine, and non-lethal nutbar. Maybe.
It’s still too early to assume too much about Donald Henson. However, given the actions of the insane and the evil over the past year or so, we may see this “targeted attack” on the Pittsburgh office of the FBI as a potentially unifying event, or perhaps even a bit of desperately needed comic relief:
The FBI initially described this as a terrorist incident, but later downgraded it:
The FBI says Donald Henson, of Penn Hills, who they say used his car to ram the gate to the building around 2:40 a.m. on Wednesday, is in custody.
FBI Pittsburgh Assistant Special Agent in Charge Christopher Giordano said early Wednesday that after crashing into the gate, Henson grabbed an American flag from inside the vehicle and threw it over the gate.
“We look at this as an act of terror against the FBI,” Giordano said. “This was a targeted attack on this building.” The FBI has since backed away from calling the incident an “act of terror.”
Given what we know at the moment, it looks more like a customer-service complaint. Henson allegedly attempted to get the FBI involved in some sort of dispute, only for the bureau to conclude that they didn’t have jurisdiction. They informed Henson of that fact, and … well …
“In scouring our indexes, we did find that he visited the field office a couple of weeks ago to make a complaint that didn’t make a whole lot of sense,” Giordano said. “We ran down everything that he came down with. It didn’t have a federal nexus. We contacted him to let him know there wasn’t a federal offense that we were able to charge.”
The FBI says he is believed to have a history of mental health issues and is believed to be a former member of the military.
Police caught up with Henson later in the morning and took him into custody. Presumably, prosecutors will file some significant charges relating to the “targeted attack,” but don’t be surprised if this detours into a commitment hearing at some point.
Speaking of sighs of relief, we can take another after a scare in Phoenix today. A suspicious bag at Turning Point USA’s headquarters prompted a bomb-squad response this morning, but all is clear now:
A suspicious bag prompted a brief police situation at the headquarters of Charlie Kirk’s Turning Point on Wednesday morning.
Phoenix Police said officers were called to reports of a suspicious bag at the Turning Point USA headquarters near 48th Street and Baseline Road.
The bomb squad responded to the location to investigate the bag out of caution. Police confirmed that the bag was deemed safe, and there is no threat to the public.
Donald Trump, J.D. Vance, Marco Rubio, Robert Kennedy Jr, and other notables will come to Phoenix this week for Charlie Kirk’s memorial this weekend. You can bet the Secret Service and FBI will work overtime to button up these locations by then, but maybe they should start now. Just in case.
