The 2025 BET Awards kicked off with an unforgettable bang as host Kevin Hart unleashed a blistering monologue that spared no one — especially not music giants Sean “Diddy” Combs, Kanye West, or Cardi B.
Hosting the event at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles, Hart, 45, brought his signature wit and daring humor to a star-studded evening that celebrated Black excellence in entertainment while also delivering one of the edgiest opening acts in recent memory.
Hart immediately set the tone by declaring that he was “shutting down afterparties,” before zeroing in on Combs, 55, who is currently facing multiple charges related to sex trafficking.

Referring to the scandal surrounding Combs’ alleged “freak-off” parties and the lurid claims involving excessive baby oil, Hart quipped, “That’s where s–t gets slippery, at them goddamn afterparties. We’re learning a lot about people, ain’t we?”

The crowd erupted, stunned by the boldness of the joke but clearly entertained by Hart’s no-holds-barred delivery.
The moment quickly went viral online, with many praising Hart’s willingness to go where few comedians dare in the era of heightened celebrity scrutiny.
Then came Kanye West’s turn in the comedy crosshairs.
Referring to West’s controversial public appearances and erratic behavior, Hart said, “Oh s–t, it’s Kanye. Yep, he says he’s out front, he’s waiting for somebody to invite him in.”
The line, a reference to West’s dramatic arrival at this year’s Grammy Awards, drew laughs — but Hart wasn’t finished.
“We all saw Sinners,” Hart continued, referencing West’s recent short film collaboration. “Don’t let his ass in here, so he can fight somebody, so he can fight Playboi Carti again, okay? Nobody let Kanye in, no! Not tonight!”

The jabs come on the heels of West’s latest controversies, including his bizarre Grammys appearance alongside his nearly nude wife, Bianca Censori, and a now-deleted antisemitic rant on social media that drew widespread condemnation.
Cardi B was next in the hot seat. In a pointed nod to viral videos showing Cardi and her boyfriend, NFL star Stefon Diggs, partying on a Miami yacht, Hart said: “No yachts, no boats. Cardi B, no pink stuff. What the f–k, none of that stuff.”
The reference to Diggs allegedly holding a small bag of pink powder — widely speculated to be cocaine — didn’t go unnoticed, with gasps and laughter rippling through the theater.
“Everybody’s gonna get hit tonight,” Hart warned. “We’re live. It’s gonna be a good time.”
Despite the sharp digs, Hart made sure to balance his humor with heartfelt praise, particularly for the women dominating today’s hip-hop scene.
“The women in hip-hop are doing such amazing—I told you guys it’s a matter of giving flowers, so I wanna make sure I celebrate this correctly,” he said, softening his tone.
“Shouts out to Cardi B, shouts out to Meg[an] Thee Stallion. Shouts out to Latto, Doechii, just to name a few. You guys are all doing amazing things.”
He added, “We all love you, we all see you, we all support you. It’s dope as hell to see how you guys are pushing the goddamn business in music forward. Keep going ladies, keep going.”
Beyond the headline-grabbing monologue, the BET Awards were a high-voltage celebration of music, culture, and legacy.
The night featured powerhouse performances by Lil Wayne, Teyana Taylor, GloRilla, Leon Thomas, Ashanti, Keyshia Cole, Babyface, Ludacris, and Jennifer Hudson, among others.
One of the evening’s most emotional highlights came during the presentation of the Ultimate Icon Award, which was bestowed upon an all-star group of legends: Mariah Carey, Jamie Foxx, Snoop Dogg, and Kirk Franklin.
Each of them was honored for their decades-long impact on music and culture, drawing standing ovations from the audience.
In typical Hart fashion, the comedian managed to both rattle and rally the crowd with his mixture of cutting jokes and genuine appreciation for the talent in the room.
While some of the monologue’s barbs will surely stir debate, few can argue with Hart’s ability to command the spotlight and inject energy into an already electric night.
As the 2025 BET Awards came to a close, it was clear that Kevin Hart didn’t just host the show — he owned it.
