An alleged intruder is hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after being shot by a homeowner early Monday morning in Aurora, Colorado.

According to Aurora police, the incident occurred just before 5:00 a.m. on June 17, 2025, at a residence in the area. The homeowner, who had recently installed surveillance cameras, was alerted to suspicious activity outside his detached garage, as reported by Breitbart.

Upon reviewing the footage, the homeowner went outside to investigate and found an individual attempting to access the garage. Authorities say an altercation broke out between the homeowner and the alleged intruder, which ended with the homeowner firing a shot that struck the suspect.

Emergency services responded to the scene shortly after the shooting. The suspect was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. As of Monday evening, the individual remained hospitalized.

Aurora Police Department investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the shooting but stated that the homeowner is not currently facing any charges. The homeowner remained at the scene and cooperated with law enforcement officers.

Local outlets, including CBS News and 9 News, reported that police believe the homeowner was acting within his rights during the incident.

Colorado law allows residents to use force, including deadly force, to protect themselves and their property under specific circumstances, especially if the resident feels threatened by an intruder.

The Aurora shooting marks the second high-profile homeowner-involved self-defense incident reported in recent weeks.

On May 13, a homeowner in Duplin County, North Carolina, shot and killed an alleged intruder who was attempting to break through the door of the home with an axe.

In that case, law enforcement officials stated the suspect had struck the door multiple times before the homeowner opened fire, striking him multiple times. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

As of now, police have not released the names of either the Aurora homeowner or the suspect involved in Monday’s shooting.
