Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) joined Maria Bartiromo on Sunday Morning Futures to outline the GOP’s vision for advancing an “America First” legislative agenda.
With newly minted House Speaker Mike Johnson leading the charge, Republicans aim to deliver a comprehensive package addressing energy, border security, and tax reforms to President Trump by the end of April, as reported by The Gateway Pundit.
“Mike Johnson says he is gonna have a bill with energy permitting, the border, as well as tax extensions on President Trump’s desk by the end of April,” Bartiromo remarked during the interview.

Rep. Donalds emphasized the House’s focus on crafting a robust, actionable plan: “The job right now, specifically in the House, is putting together the overall package. We use this phrase on Capitol Hill often, ‘you have to build the plane while it’s in the air.’”
Donalds didn’t shy away from the challenges ahead, stressing that reforms, spending cuts, and critical components like border security and tax policy must be part of the package. “There is gonna have to be some reforms, there is gonna have to be some cuts,” he noted, adding, “We can deliver it; it’s just working through the finer points.”
Bartiromo questioned whether the ambitious plan was realistic, pointing out resistance in the Senate to raising the debt ceiling. “I’ve already spoken with a couple of Senators who say there is absolutely no way they are voting yes to eliminate or raise the debt ceiling,” she said. “Is this really realistic that you can get this done?”
Donalds responded with confidence, asserting the effectiveness of Trump-era tax policies. “Tax policy overall, most of it is actually gonna be reauthorizing the Trump tax cuts, which by the way is the best tax policy our nation has ever had,” he said.
The discussion shifted to President Biden’s recent decision to award the Presidential Medal of Freedom to George Soros, a figure notorious for his left-wing activism and funding of progressive causes.
Bartiromo called out the move: “You saw what Joe Biden just did over the weekend giving America’s highest civilian award to George Soros, the Democrat’s biggest donor. Your thoughts?”
Donalds didn’t hold back. “It is just crazy in my view,” he said. “First of all, George Soros is on the absolute left of our politics, everybody knows this. So for Joe Biden and his team—and I stress and his team because let’s be honest, Maria, do we really know what Joe Biden is thinking from day to day?”
He continued, criticizing the Democrats’ priorities. “The Democrats want to use their last moments to reward their leftists. It makes no sense at all. But we are gonna make America great; we are gonna be focused on the American people.”
