Hunter Biden sharply criticized two major policy decisions made during his father’s presidency, calling the Biden administration’s border strategy “a disaster” and acknowledging that the U.S. military withdrawal from Afghanistan was an “obvious” failure.

The remarks came during a lengthy interview released Monday on The Shawn Ryan Show, as reported by Newsmax.

Biden, the son of former President Joe Biden, addressed immigration and national security issues during a wide-ranging discussion with host Shawn Ryan.

During the conversation, he said the administration’s approach to the southern border became unmanageable and acknowledged public frustration over the scale of illegal immigration.

Hunter Biden said the United States needs “vibrant” legal immigration but warned against prioritizing illegal migrants over Americans already struggling at home.

He said the country “doesn’t want immigrants that are coming here illegally, draining us of resources” and being “prioritized above” veterans and other citizens.

Hearing this from Hunter Biden was not on my 2025 bingo card.

Just demolished his father’s administration.

The exchange followed Ryan’s observation that many Americans see a contrast between overwhelmed veterans’ services and taxpayer-funded benefits provided to illegal aliens in major U.S. cities.

Biden rejected the idea that cutting benefits to migrants would automatically resolve problems at the Department of Veterans Affairs, saying his father “cared” about veterans and pointing to the PACT Act as an example of support.

While defending his father’s intentions, Biden’s comments echoed long-standing Republican arguments that the administration lost operational control of the border and declined to fully enforce existing immigration laws until political pressure intensified.

Government projections have underscored the scale of the immigration surge.

The Congressional Budget Office projected net immigration of approximately 2.4 million people per year in both 2023 and 2024 under an “other foreign nationals” category, before levels were expected to return closer to historical norms.

Hunter Biden also repeated a Democratic talking point regarding a bipartisan border bill negotiated by Sens. James Lankford, Kyrsten Sinema, and Chris Murphy.

He claimed the measure had Republican backing until Donald Trump intervened ahead of the 2024 election.

Republicans have countered that enforcement tools already existed and that then-President Joe Biden chose not to use them.

On Afghanistan, Hunter Biden said ending the two-decade war was “the right thing to do,” but he criticized how the withdrawal was carried out.

He referenced the ISIS-K suicide bombing at Kabul’s airport during the evacuation, which killed 13 U.S. service members and approximately 170 Afghan civilians.

Hunter Biden addressed the media on December 13, 2023 explaining that he would not testify behind closed doors to the US Congress.

“I think that there was a better way to do it, and … I can blame it on his generals, I can blame it on [other] people [for] the way in which we did it, but — and my dad always knew this also, is that the buck stops with him,” Hunter Biden said.

He added that his father was “crushed” by the deaths.

The remarks are likely to renew scrutiny of the Biden administration’s planning for the withdrawal, an issue Republicans have repeatedly cited as damaging to U.S. credibility abroad.
