New details have emerged in the disappearance of Lynette Hooker, a 55-year-old American woman who went missing during a boating trip in the Bahamas, as her husband’s account of the incident and subsequent arrest continues to draw scrutiny, as reported by The New York Post.
According to messages reviewed by CBS, Brian Hooker, 59, told a family friend that wind conditions separated him from his wife after she allegedly fell overboard Saturday night.
The messages were sent Monday, two days after Lynette Hooker’s disappearance, after friend Daniel Danforth contacted him following an “ABC World News” report on the case.
“The wind blew me away from her and she swam towards the sailboat, and we lost sight of each other pretty quickly as it was just about sundown,” Brian wrote in the message.

Law enforcement officials, however, have stated that Lynette Hooker was swept away by strong ocean currents while attempting to return to the couple’s yacht, Soulmate.
In the same exchange, Brian described his efforts after the incident, stating that Lynette had fallen into the water while holding the dinghy’s key, disabling its motor.
He said he was left drifting and attempted to navigate using limited resources.
“I drifted and tried to paddle with one oar for the next 7 hours until I washed up behind the shore of the next island over,” he told Danforth.

He added that search efforts were ongoing.
“We are still searching..a lot is going on right now but I thank you for checking on us,” Brian wrote.
After Danforth offered prayers, Brian responded, “Thank you friend. Our family is in hell right now.”
Brian also told his friend that Lynette had not yet been found despite search efforts.
He said he was docked at the marina resort of Conch Inn and expected family members, including his sister and brother-in-law, to arrive for a short visit.
“I will probably stay with them for a night or two while weather happens but then I plan on heading back out to the site and continuing the search,” he wrote.
“I will most likely definitely need help in the future but I just don’t know what it is yet I’m trying to take it a day at a time and keep the faith.”
Danforth later told reporters that the details provided by Brian did not align with information released by authorities. He questioned why Brian had not attempted to rescue his wife and expressed skepticism about the explanation involving wind conditions.
“The stories don’t really match up,” Danforth said.
He also noted that Brian had interacted with a boating-related post on social media during the search period, which he found unusual.
“You know, my wife’s missing, Facebook’s the last thing I’m worried about,” Danforth said.
“You’re going to find me on the water riding around.”
Brian Hooker was arrested Wednesday night and is currently being treated as a suspect in the case.
During the arrest, he reportedly fell overboard from a police boat while being handcuffed, sustaining “knee pain and abrasions,” according to his attorney, Terrel Butler, who spoke to Fox News.
Authorities have not filed charges against Brian. Lynette Hooker’s family indicated that they do not expect charges unless additional evidence is uncovered.
“We don’t expect [he’ll be charged] unless they find blood on the dinghy, or her body or some key evidence like that,” Steve Hansen, the boyfriend of Lynette’s daughter Karli Aylesworth, told the Detroit News.
Karli Aylesworth has raised concerns about the circumstances surrounding her mother’s disappearance, referencing past incidents.
“There’s history of him choking her out and threatening to throw her overboard. So the fact that this is actually happening makes me believe there’s more to the story,” she told Fox News.
A neighbor, Jordan Plentz, told the Detroit News that the couple had a history of conflict.
“They fought for a long time and the violence was pretty bad,” Plentz said.
Public records also show that Lynette Hooker was jailed in 2015 following a domestic violence incident involving her husband, during which he was left with injuries.
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue searching for Lynette Hooker and reviewing the circumstances surrounding her disappearance.
