‘I Am a Progressive,’ Running as ‘Fake Republican’ to Win Seat [WATCH]

A candidate in North Carolina’s 14th Congressional District Republican primary is openly acknowledging she is not a Republican while seeking the party’s nomination to challenge Rep. Tim Moore, as reported by The Gateway Pundit.

Katie Barr, who is running in the GOP primary, has publicly described herself as a progressive and has said she is entering the Republican contest because that is where she believes the competitive race will take place.

In a recent interview, Barr addressed her political identity directly.

“I’m not a real Republican,” she said.

“Like, I am telling people the truth. I knock on a door and say, ‘I am running in the Republican primary, but I am not a Republican, I am a progressive.’”

Barr explained her strategy further during the same interview.

“I’m running as a Republican in the Republican primary for Congressional District 14 because that is where the actual competition happens in our gerrymandered district. It happens in the primaries.”

“Like, if you’re in a district that is a lock for Democrats, that Democratic primary is where the competition is.”

“And, quite frankly, while the ‘can’t win’ strategy is about building for the long term, and like, building our bench and being ready for fair maps in 2030, we got to fu**ing win right now. Because we are in an emergency, like a democratic emergency, and so the place I can win is as a fake Republican.”

Barr’s campaign website reinforces her position, stating: “I’m not a Republican. But I am running in the Republican primary.”

The site also addresses her reasoning for entering the GOP contest.

“Why run as a Republican?”

“Because I’m an American and I care about my community. And running as a Republican is the only way to kick these corrupt cowards out of office.”

Barr is challenging Rep. Tim Moore in North Carolina’s 14th Congressional District. Moore currently represents the district and is seeking re-election.

In addition to her statements about party affiliation, Barr has drawn attention for her use of profanity on the campaign trail. She has used explicit language during interviews and recently hosted a town hall event titled the “No Fu**ing Moore Town Hall.”

Her remarks have circulated on social media, where video clips from the interview have been widely shared.

North Carolina’s 14th Congressional District is expected to remain competitive within party primaries, according to Barr’s own assessment. She has argued that the decisive contest in the district occurs during the Republican primary rather than the general election.

Barr’s strategy centers on entering that primary despite openly stating that she identifies as a progressive and not as a member of the Republican Party.
