ICE Raided Canal Street in NYC Yesterday and the Left is Not Happy

Yesterday afternoon, ICE agents showed up in force and arrested a bunch of people selling counterfeit merchandise on Canal Street in New York City. The operation was immediately surrounded by a bunch of New Yorkers chanting things like “ICE out now!” and a lot of worse things. [emphasis added]

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents raided Chinatown’s Canal Street on Tuesday afternoon, detaining several street vendors in an operation that drew immediate and fierce backlash from bystanders and immigrant advocates.

The operation began at about 3 p.m. in the area of Centre and Canal Streets where ICE agents showed up to question street vendors as part of an alleged operation to tackle counterfeit goods, according to a Homeland Security official…

When the agents went to arrest a vendor, who appeared to be African, members of the crowd became incensed. Some became enraged to the point of yelling in ICE agents’ faces, comparing them to Nazis and calling them fascists.

As ICE agents went to their vehicles, New Yorkers ran into the streets. The agents then began pushing people and tackling some to the ground. That led to more enraged bystanders joining the mob and lashing out at the ICE agents.

There are quite a few video clips of the operation but it’s difficult to put them in any sort of order. One thing I notice in this clip is that nearly all of the people screeching at ICE are women.

It looks like amNewYork got those clips from here. This includes an additional clip with some shoving between protesters and ICE as vehicles were trying to leave the area.

Later, as the sun was going down, the protesters gathered at a nearby ICE facility to chant and shout some more.

They blocked the street and tried to stop traffic.

Some Antifa goon got arrested and other members of the crowd (dressed in black with faces covered) tried to de-arrest him. They were not successful.

Yet another member of the goon squad got arrested.

The general consensus seems to be that the raid happened because a couple days earlier a reporter with connections to TPUSA did a video showing all of the migrants selling illegally on the street. Here’s that video from Savannah Hernandez which was published Sunday.

This corner looks exactly like the streets of Paris and the migrants even became angry and tried to tell me I couldn’t film (similar to Paris). 

As I was reporting, the migrants began scrambling to pick up their items before fleeing into vehicles or on foot due to police presence in the area. 

One of the migrants explained to me that they’re operating “without a license” and if the police catch them, they’ll confiscate all of their items.  

There were at least 20-30 illegals in the area conducting business that they know is against the law, however, this seems to be a common occurrence on this street and business is booming. 

Canal street is more-or-less famous for this activity which has been going on there for decades. The NYPD occasionally raids the area and scoops up the illegal merch but what does not usually happen is that ICE gets involved.

DHS posted a list of migrants who were arrested yesterday, some of whom are criminals or have final deportation orders.

Naturally, the left is outraged by this and vowing to keep NYC a sanctuary city.

Today, Letitia James is asking New Yorkers to submit video so her office can review it for any violations of the law.
