The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed on Saturday that a senior Hamas military commander involved in orchestrating the October 7 attack was killed in an Israeli airstrike.
The strike targeted the Sabra neighborhood of Gaza City and resulted in the death of Hakham Muhammad Issa Al-Issa, a founding figure of Hamas’ military wing.

According to the IDF, Al-Issa was instrumental in organizing and executing the October 7 assault that triggered the current conflict between Israel and Hamas.
The attack resulted in significant casualties and marked a major escalation in the longstanding hostilities.
“Isa led Hamas’ force build-up, training, and planned the October 7 massacre. As Head of Combat Support, he advanced aerial & naval attacks against Israelis,” the IDF said in a post on X.
The IDF added, “The IDF & [Israel Security Agency] will continue to locate and eliminate all terrorists involved in the October 7 massacre.”

Prior to his death, Al-Issa held multiple high-ranking positions within Hamas.
He served as the Head of the Training Headquarters and was regarded as a central figure in maintaining and rebuilding the group’s operational infrastructure.
He was also recognized as a co-founder of the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades’ military academy, where he was responsible for training thousands of operatives and shaping the organization’s military framework.
The Jerusalem Post reported that Al-Issa returned to Gaza from Syria in 2005. During the airstrike that resulted in his death, he was reportedly accompanied by his wife and grandson.
His elimination marks a significant development in Israel’s ongoing campaign to dismantle the leadership of Hamas.
Israeli military officials emphasized that Al-Issa was one of the last surviving founding members of Hamas’ military wing.
Al-Issa’s death comes shortly after the Israeli military announced the killing of another high-profile target, Asaad Abu Sharia, the leader of the Mujahideen Brigades.
Abu Sharia was killed in Gaza City during a joint operation by the IDF and the Shin Bet, Israel’s internal security service.
Abu Sharia had been identified as the head of a Palestinian jihadist faction accused of participating in the October 7 kidnappings and murders of hostages.
His group operated independently but cooperated with Hamas in executing attacks against Israeli civilians and security personnel.
In a separate operation last month, the IDF also killed Mohammad Sinwar, the Hamas chief who had been sheltering in tunnels beneath a hospital in Gaza.
According to military reports, Sinwar was located through intelligence operations and killed during an airstrike.
Footage released by the IDF showed soldiers extracting his body from the rubble following the targeted attack.
Israeli military operations continue across Gaza as part of a broader campaign to neutralize Hamas leadership and military capabilities following the October 7 assault.
The IDF has reiterated its commitment to identifying and eliminating those responsible for orchestrating and carrying out attacks on Israeli civilians.
