A heart-stopping incident at Colorado National Monument turned into a tale of resilience and heroism when a dog survived a 100-foot fall into a canyon—and walked away with only minor injuries.

The pup was traveling with her owner through the scenic western Colorado landmark when they decided to stop and take in the stunning views.

As they pulled over to get a closer look at the canyon, things took a sudden turn.

Before anyone could react, she had run straight off the ledge and plunged into the canyon below, tumbling more than 100 feet before landing on a rock shelf.

Fortunately, the fall didn’t prove fatal.

The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office quickly responded to the distress call, enlisting the help of Mesa County Search and Rescue.

Their expert team arrived on the scene and began a technical operation to reach the stranded canine.

Photos from the daring rescue show the dog being carefully hoisted up the vertical canyon wall in a harness, cradled securely by rescuers as they worked their way back to safety.

After being lifted to the top, the pup was joyfully reunited with her worried owner.

Miraculously, despite the dramatic fall, the dog was able to walk once she was back over the canyon ledge.

She was rushed to an emergency veterinary facility, where professionals confirmed she had suffered no broken bones or internal injuries.

According to Mesa County Search and Rescue, the dog’s only physical damage consisted of a few minor scrapes and bumps—an astonishing outcome given the distance she had fallen.

The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office praised the swift and skilled efforts of the rescue team and expressed their relief in a heartfelt social media post: “If dogs have nine lives like cats, she definitely used one in her adventure on the Monument but we are so grateful to have an amazing Search & Rescue team ready to spring into action for all who need it!”

This remarkable rescue serves as a powerful reminder of both the unpredictable nature of wildlife excursions and the vital role played by search and rescue teams in ensuring safety in outdoor spaces.

It’s also a testament to one lucky pup’s incredible survival—and to the dedication of the people who brought her back.
