Ilhan Omar Loses It During Trump’s State of the Union Speech [WATCH]

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) repeatedly shouted at President Donald Trump during his 2026 State of the Union address after he challenged lawmakers to affirm that the federal government’s first responsibility is to protect American citizens rather than illegal immigrants.

The exchange unfolded during the immigration portion of the president’s speech, when Trump directly addressed members of Congress and asked them to publicly signal their agreement with a statement on border enforcement.

“I’m inviting every legislator to join with my administration in reaffirming a fundamental principle. If you agree with this statement, then stand up and show your support. The first duty of the American government is to protect American citizens, not illegal aliens,” he said.

“You should be ashamed of yourselves, not standing up,” he said.

At that moment, Omar began shouting from her seat.

“You have killed Americans!” she yelled repeatedly.

Trump continued speaking as the interruption unfolded.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) appeared to prepare to address the disruption, readying his microphone as the exchange continued.

The president moved forward with additional immigration policy proposals, calling on Congress to take action against sanctuary jurisdictions.

“That is why I’m also asking you to end deadly sanctuary cities that protect the criminals and enact serious penalties for public officials who block the removal of criminal aliens, in many cases, drug lords, murderers all over our country,” the president said.

“They’re blocking the removal of these people out of our country, and you should be ashamed of yourself,” he added.

Republican members responded with another round of applause and began chanting, “USA!”

Immigration enforcement and border security were central themes of Trump’s address. The president used the moment to contrast his administration’s policies with what he characterized as Democratic resistance to stricter enforcement measures.

Later in the speech, Trump called for passage of the SAVE America Act, legislation that would require proof of U.S. citizenship when registering to vote in federal elections. The proposal is aimed at tightening voter registration requirements at the federal level.

The confrontation between Trump and Omar marked one of the most visible moments of the evening.

With the nation watching, the exchange highlighted the sharp divide in Congress over immigration enforcement, sanctuary city policies, and voting laws.
