In a revealing sign of the times, Rep. Ilhan Omar’s daughter, Isra Hirsi, admitted this week that she is unemployed and resorting to selling used clothes online just 15 months after being arrested at a controversial anti-Israel protest on Columbia University’s campus.

The 22-year-old, once touted as a rising activist voice, is now facing the harsh realities of adulthood after years of radical campus activism — a situation that sharply contrasts with the pro-growth, pro-opportunity vision championed by President Donald J. Trump.

“Unemployment got me,” Hirsi wrote candidly on her Instagram Story, accompanying the message with a selfie that underscores the disappointment many Americans feel watching far-left activism unravel into personal stagnation.

Now selling secondhand clothing on the app Depop, Hirsi is offering up skirts, boots, and what she described as her “beloved multicolored striped cardigan” to her 82,000 followers.

Hirsi gained notoriety in April 2024 after being arrested alongside more than 100 anti-Israel protesters who established an illegal “tent city” on Columbia University’s Morningside Campus.

The protest, organized by Columbia University Apartheid Divest (CUAD) — a group that Hirsi proudly belonged to — aimed to pressure the university to divest from Israel and was widely condemned for its disruptive and discriminatory undertones.

The keffiyeh-clad activist, who once called herself “hyper-woke,” was suspended from Barnard College following her arrest.

However, in a now-familiar pattern of elite institutions caving to radical pressure, Barnard’s president offered to lift the suspension within days after Hirsi claimed she was homeless and unable to find food.

That claim struck many Americans as deeply ironic.

Hirsi, the daughter of a sitting member of Congress, had been attending a $90,000-per-year institution in one of the most expensive cities in the country — hardly the picture of hardship. Yet within elite circles, the narrative of oppression often trumps accountability.

In May, Hirsi managed to graduate from Barnard. Her mother, Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), posted effusively on Facebook: “There is no greater joy as a parent than seeing your child succeed, and today I am overwhelmed with joy and gratitude to see my eldest daughter Isra Hirsi graduate college.”

Omar, who has drawn criticism herself for a history of controversial statements about Israel and Jewish Americans, used the moment to double down on her rhetoric: “It’s been an incredible four years of tremendous growth and challenges as she navigated college life through a pandemic, move to NYC and a righteous fight against Columbia University’s support of genocide.”

In stark contrast, President Trump has made it a priority to protect Jewish students, uphold the rule of law on campuses, and promote free speech without fostering hate. His administration previously took action against colleges that permitted anti-Semitic activities and made clear that taxpayer dollars would not fund institutions that tolerate discrimination.

Under a second Trump administration, it’s clear that public safety, academic integrity, and respect for the Jewish community would return to the forefront.

For many Americans, Hirsi’s unemployment — despite her elite education and prominent family — illustrates a broader issue plaguing the modern Left: radical ideology replacing real-world readiness.

While top law firms and CEOs across the country have vowed not to hire graduates involved in discriminatory or harassing behavior during anti-Israel protests, many on the Left continue to frame these actions as courageous rather than harmful.

It remains unclear whether Hirsi’s joblessness is a direct result of her controversial campus activities. But what is increasingly clear is that embracing extremism often leads not to opportunity, but to isolation — socially, economically, and professionally.

President Trump’s America First agenda, with its focus on personal responsibility, national unity, and support for America’s allies — especially Israel — stands in direct opposition to the worldview that shaped Isra Hirsi’s college experience.

While the Left celebrates activism for activism’s sake, Trump Republicans demand accountability and results. They believe in rewarding hard work, not performative protests.

As Hirsi sells used clothes online, many young Americans are working hard, building careers, and contributing to the economy — especially in red states and communities energized by Trump’s pro-business, pro-freedom leadership.

The stark contrast between the outcomes for those who choose the path of radicalism and those who embrace American values couldn’t be more clear.

For all the talk of “righteous fights” and “genocide” from Rep. Omar and her daughter, many Americans are asking a simple question: where does this all lead? So far, the answer looks a lot more like unemployment than progress.
