Donald Trump’s Border Czar, Tom Homan, issued a stern warning to the city of Boston after the city’s police commissioner refused to cooperate with ICE in enforcing federal immigration laws. Homan’s remarks came during his speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) over the weekend.
Homan, who has been a vocal critic of sanctuary cities, reacted strongly to Boston Police Commissioner Michael Cox’s recent refusal to support ICE in enforcing civil detainers.
“I read a story last night that the police commissioner of Boston, you said you’d double down on not helping law enforcement officers of ICE. I’m coming to Boston, and I’m bringing hell with me,” Homan told the crowd, sparking loud applause from the audience.
Dennis Quaid’s #1 Warning for Americans
Boston has been designated a sanctuary city since 2014, meaning it does not comply with federal immigration law by honoring ICE detainers.
Boston’s stance has been reinforced by a 2017 ruling from the state’s Supreme Judicial Court, which prohibits Massachusetts authorities from arresting or holding individuals based on federal civil immigration detainers.
Homan cited specific examples of criminals being released in Boston, despite being flagged by ICE. “I looked at the numbers this morning,” Homan said. “I stopped counting at nine child rapists that were in jail in Massachusetts, but rather than honoring an ICE detainer, released them back into the street.”
Homan also sharply criticized Commissioner Cox’s decision to side with the sanctuary policy, telling him, “You’re not a police commissioner. Take that badge off your chest, put it in the desk drawer because you became a politician, you forgot what it’s like to be a cop.”

He further emphasized that while the Boston police had refused to cooperate with ICE, the agency’s officers were still able to track down and arrest the criminals.
“And guess what? The men and women of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, they found those predators, and they’re locked back up, and we are going to deport them from the United States,” Homan added.

Homan’s comments underscored his belief that sanctuary cities endanger public safety by sheltering criminals. “Sanctuary cities, you are a sanctuary for criminals,” he declared.
Boston’s sanctuary status has been a point of contention for years, with critics arguing that it puts citizens at risk by shielding individuals who have committed serious crimes from federal authorities.
The city has consistently defended its policy, insisting it is in place to protect immigrant communities from federal overreach.
Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, a staunch supporter of the sanctuary city policy, responded to Homan’s remarks on BlueSky, a social media platform like X but allegedly just for liberals.
She defended the city’s policies, asserting that the safety of all Bostonians remains a top priority.
“This is our city. We’re going to continue following & enforcing the laws to keep all Bostonians safe. And it goes without saying that our police commissioner has my complete confidence & support,” Mayor Wu wrote in her post.
Homan’s warning and his criticism of sanctuary policies continue to fuel the ongoing debate about immigration enforcement in cities across the United States.

With sanctuary cities such as Boston standing firm in their opposition to ICE cooperation, the divide between federal immigration enforcement and local jurisdictions is expected to remain a contentious issue.
