Stephen Miller, the incoming Deputy Chief of Policy for the Trump administration, clarified on Sunday that comprehensive tax reform would not be delayed under President-elect Donald Trump.
Speaking in an interview, Miller assured that tax reform is a high priority, expected to follow closely on the heels of addressing border security.
“We’re talking January, early February,” Miller said, outlining a tentative timeline for Congress to shift focus from border security to overhauling the tax system.

Miller emphasized that the tax reform package would address key elements, including state and local tax (SALT) deductions, corporate tax reform, trade policy, and manufacturing incentives. “That’s where you have to figure out SALT. That’s where you’re going to figure out different policy baselines that you’re going to use for the tax cuts, about corporate tax reform, about trade reform, manufacturing reform, and all those tax policies,” he said.
Despite the slim Republican majority in the House of Representatives, Miller dismissed concerns about potential delays, stating, “Nobody, I repeat, nobody is even talking or considering delaying tax reform.”
He added, “Tax reform will happen, and it will be the greatest tax bill that we’ve ever seen. Now, these are not final. These are ongoing discussions and negotiations, but I just want to be very clear that no one is talking about delaying tax reform.”
Before turning to tax reform, the Trump administration plans to focus on addressing the ongoing border crisis. Miller described the initiative as the “largest investment in immigration and border security” in decades.
The plan includes hiring additional Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers and fully funding physical barriers, advanced technology, and other measures to stem the tide of illegal immigration.
“You’re talking about what would be the largest investment in immigration and border security,” Miller said.
“This is something that Republicans have been talking about for decades, but with Donald Trump, this is something that is going to happen. It will be the most important and significant domestic policy achievement in half a century.”

With Republicans holding only a narrow majority in the House, Miller acknowledged that passing sweeping legislation like tax reform and border security would require meticulous planning and negotiation.
However, he expressed confidence in the administration’s ability to deliver on these key campaign promises.
The Trump administration’s focus on border security and tax reform comes amid heightened public and political scrutiny of immigration policies and economic strategies.
These initiatives are expected to dominate the early months of Trump’s presidency, signaling a bold agenda aimed at fulfilling commitments made during the campaign.
