A ceasefire agreement between Israel and Iran, set to take effect at midnight Eastern Daylight Time on Tuesday, was almost immediately broken when the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported a missile launch from Iran just 18 minutes after the ceasefire deadline.

At 12:18 a.m. EDT, the IDF posted a statement confirming that sirens were sounding in parts of Israel due to incoming fire from Iranian territory.

The breach came shortly after both nations had agreed to pause hostilities following several days of escalating conflict.

Iranian officials, however, contested the accusation, stating that the ceasefire did begin on time.

🚨 The Iranian news agency ‘Fars’, affiliated with the Iranian regime, reported that “after the latest Iranian missile strike and a number of casualties, the ceasefire began at 7:30 a.m., Tehran time.”

Tehran, operating seven and a half hours ahead of Washington, D.C., has not yet provided a detailed explanation regarding the time discrepancy between the reported strike and the ceasefire deadline.

In the hours leading up to the attempted ceasefire, a ballistic missile had struck the city of Beersheba in southern Israel.

According to reports from former IDF soldier Eli Afriat, the strike resulted in at least four deaths. Multiple individuals were rescued from the rubble in the aftermath.

The escalation follows a series of targeted Israeli airstrikes across Iran earlier Monday afternoon, which reportedly focused on infrastructure associated with Iran’s military and internal security forces.

The IDF disclosed the list of locations struck in the operation, which included several prominent military and intelligence facilities.

According to the IDF, the following sites were targeted:

  • Command centers and assets of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and Iran’s internal security forces.
  • Basij Headquarters – A central armed IRGC base tasked with enforcing Islamic law and monitoring civilian behavior.
  • Alborz Corps – Responsible for military and security operations in the Tehran district.
  • “Thar-Allah” Command Center – Charged with defending Tehran from internal and external threats.
  • “Sayyed al-Shuhada” Corps – A key unit overseeing internal defense and riot control.
  • General Intelligence Directorate of the Internal Security Forces – Supervises internal surveillance operations and information management within the regime.

Following the renewed missile activity early Tuesday morning, Israeli officials vowed to escalate their military response.

Defense Minister Israel Katz announced that he had authorized the military to launch high-intensity retaliatory strikes targeting regime positions in Tehran.

“In light of Iran’s blatant violation of the ceasefire declared by the President of the United States, and the launching of missiles toward Israel—and in accordance with the Israeli government’s policy to respond forcefully to any violation—I have instructed the IDF, in coordination with the Prime Minister, to continue the intense operations striking regime targets and terror infrastructure in Tehran,” Katz said in a statement.

He added that these operations would follow the “actions carried out yesterday,” referencing Monday’s targeted strikes across multiple military sites in Iran.

IDF Chief of the General Staff Eyal Zamir echoed the defense minister’s comments in a situational assessment, stating, “In light of the severe violation of the ceasefire carried out by the Iranian regime, we will strike with force.”

Iranian state media denied that the Islamic Republic had violated the ceasefire, directly contradicting Israel’s statements.

The ongoing exchange of accusations raised further uncertainty about the effectiveness of the ceasefire agreement and whether a return to broader hostilities is imminent.

As of Tuesday morning, the situation remains fluid, with international observers monitoring developments closely.
