Islamic Health Care Workers in Australia: We Kill Israelis Who Seek Treatment

This is like turning over a rock and finding something creepy crawling underneath. The backstory here is that there is a site called Chatruletka which pairs people with random strangers around the world to have a video chat. Yesterday a content creator in Israel name Max Veifer started a chat with a man who turned out to be working in a hospital in New South Wales, Australia. 

The chat started out respectfully with an exchange of locations but moments later it took a dark turn. The Australian “doctor,” whose name is Ahmad Rashad Nadir, told Max that he was going to die and go to hell.

“I’m so upset that you’re Israeli,” Mr Nadir says.

“Eventually you’re going to get killed and go to Jahannam, inshallah.”

When Mr Veifer asks why he is going to be killed, Ms Abu Lebdeh comes into the frame of the video.

“It’s Palestine’s country, not your country, you piece of shit,” she says.

Things went downhill from there when a nurse named Sarah Abu Lebdeh entered the conversation:

“When your time comes, I want you to remember my face so you can understand you will die the most disgusting death,” she says, before adding that she won’t treat Israelis.

“I won’t treat them, I will kill them,” she says.

The video spread quickly and before long Australia’s Prime Minister was weighing in, calling it vile.

The antisemitic video circulating today is disgusting. The comments are vile.

The footage is sickening and shameful.

These antisemitic comments, driven by hate, have no place in our health system and no place anywhere in Australia.

The two nurses (Nadir is a nurse, not a doctor) work in a hospital in Sydney. They have been suspended and are under investigation:

Two Australian nurses have been suspended after a video appeared to show them threatening to kill Israeli patients and boasting about refusing to treat them.

The man and woman – both employees at a Sydney hospital – are now being investigated by police, officials in New South Wales (NSW) said.

State Health Minister Ryan Park said that a “thorough investigation” would be carried out to make sure there had been “no adverse [patient] outcomes”, but that a “rapid” examination of hospital records had not turned up anything unusual.

Nadir is a refugee from Afghanistan. He came to Australia as a child.

The NSW healthcare worker who recorded himself saying he would kill Jewish patients is an Afghan refugee who came to Australia when he was 12.

It’s worth pointing out that Max Veifer apparently does this sort of thing for comedy/clicks. He has a bunch of videos in which he connects with Palestinians and tries to provoke them to say something nutty. Some consider him a provocateur for clips like this:

Of course it’s up to the individuals on the other end of the chat whether they decide to take the bait and in the case of the two Australian nurses they took it hook, line and sinker. There really was no time for provocation before they started condemning Veifer to hell and a horrible death. Most likely their comments about murdering Israelis were just deranged online bluster, but how could any Jewish patient feel safe in a hospital that employees people like this?

Generally I’m not a fan of people being fired for stupid things they say on social media, but in this case they were a) doing this at work and b) connecting their comments to the performance of their jobs, i.e. threatening to murder patients. Under the circumstances I don’t see how they could keep their jobs. It’s the equivalent of a TSA agent who makes a video from an airport about his desire to set off a bomb. Even if it’s not true, that person is unstable and needs to find another line of work.
